Probably the most memorable experience in NYC. As a visitor that is…… 😅 there are two parts you can see. This one and the supreme. I loved it. From entry, the guys working there didn’t even bother with us we just walked on by. I was wandering around the halls, headed on up onto all the floors. The jury rooms, seeing the building in person was just a really ‘awe’ moment. You see it on tv, you see it in law and order and most famous criminal cases around the world, so to be there in the building felt surreal 🙌 Ireland 🇮🇪 we don’t have stuff like that. Not glamorised anyways. No photos ❌ though they don’t tell you this, just signs all around. You are allowed into Jury rooms, you can listen to hot cases and regular simple cases that are happening around NYC like traffic violations. Very cool - well I mean extremely cool if you like that sort of thing. Read moreThis is a really impressive building that is built in the classical revival style, and was built between 1932 and 1936 by architect Gilbert Cass and his son. It has two main components: the base and the tower. The tower is 37 stories high measuring 179.83 metres.
It serves as the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. The building contains 35 court rooms.
Events that are noteworthy include the espionage conspiracy trial of Ethel and Julius Rosenberg, the guilty plea from Ivan Boesky and the trial of Martha Stewart.
The building was named after Thurgood Marshall, who worked at the courthouse from 1961 to 1965 as a Judge on the Second Circuit of Appeals before being promoted to the Supreme Court of the United States. The building was named in his honour on April 15, 2003.
