Iâm just going to preface this by saying Iâve never written a bad Google review before, but I feel this needs to be shared. TLDR: do NOT go to Tia unless you want to have the worst doctorâs experience of your life. Full story: During my first (and last) Tia visit towards the end of 2020, my frustration began when I checked in and had to wait 20 minutes past my scheduled appointment time to finally be seen in the middle of a work day. Not the end of the world, but definitely irritating. For my appointment, I requested a normal annual physical and my blood was drawn to run a normal panel of bloodwork. I was told I would receive my results back in a few days. After I still hadnât received them about a week later, I called to check on them and was told that they actually did not receive enough blood from me during my physical and that I needed to either come back to Tia or go to Quest Diagnostics to have MORE blood drawn. I personally despise getting my blood drawn, as I can imagine the majority of people do, (and was actually quite uncomfortable/in pain while my blood was being drawn during the original physical) so you can imagine this was NOT the news I wanted to hear. Now I was VERY frustrated and I was also extremely confused as to how they did not receive enough blood from me in the first place since they took THREE VIALS of it when I was there. Because Iâm generally healthy, I decided it was not worth it to go get more blood drawn since I didnât absolutely need to see the results; however, after another few days, I received a phone call from Tia and was told they actually DID, in fact, receive enough blood from me from my original visit and that the lab was processing the bloodwork now. I was extremely confused as to how that information was miscommunicated as I could have had more blood drawn for absolutely no reason but they claimed âdue to COVID, everything has been very chaotic and the lab mixed it up.â I completely understand COVID has been wrecking havoc, but this is my literal body fluids weâre talking about here. You simply cannot tell someone they need to get more blood drawn when they donât. I found that extremely unprofessional, and even though I finally received my bloodwork results, I promptly canceled my membership. Fast-forward to early 2021 and I received an invoice in the mail for my bloodwork from Quest Diagnostics. I was expecting a normal copay for the bloodwork (~$20ish if that), but was instead charged with a copay of $93.66 (?!). I read the line items I was being charged for and realized they ran five other tests than the âGeneral Health Panelâ which I definitely did not request nor was expecting. On top of that, my insurance was listed incorrectly (they billed it to BCBS California when it shouldâve been BCBS from another state), so now, even after I thought my nightmare of dealing with them was over, I have to deal with this ridiculous bloodwork billing situation. Seriously, I have never had a worse/more unprofessional doctorâs experience in my life. STAY AWAY. UPDATE (5/2): More than 2 months later, I am still waiting to hear if this billing issue has...
Read moreMy experience with TIA Flatiron has been life-changing. Never before have I felt every part of me cared for, in every way, by a medical team. Their whole person/patient focus, awareness and attentiveness to a patientâs emotional triggers/experience, and consent practices during interactions with oneâs body, are unparalleled.
I was nervous to have my IUD removal and insertion of a new IUD, and after an initial positive experience with my Whole Health Visit, I decided to place my trust in TIA Flatiron for the IUD process.
The removal was rough, and my body reacted by spasming so much so that the measuring (first step of the insertion process) alone was impossible. We worked together to arrive at a decision to schedule a second appt later in the week with the doctor who is raved about as an IUD specialist. I was also offered a suppository to use the night before that would help soften and prepare me for the insertion (something that is no longer available in Texas; we in NYC are very fortunate).
One of the revolutionary things about TIA Flatiron is their offering of a combination appt of acupuncture + IUD insertion, to support the body through an otherwise somewhat traumatic process.
The day of insertion, I felt held and cared for from the moment I stepped into the facility. The acupuncture session, which was provided in the clinical room, was calming, grounding, and centering. After resting with the lights off for a very nice, long while, the needles were eventually removed, and it was time for the doctor to see me. Dr. Mo had me laughing right away, and talked me through each step of the process as he worked.
He and his assistant got into a nice flow so that the whole procedure was smooth, and swift. All the while, the acupuncturist held my hand to provide pressure to a major pressure point. I felt so held, as though I had a personal IUD insertion doula!
The fact that all of this was even a possibility in my lifetime made me well up with emotion, with gratitude at the forefront. Iâm reliving that experience now, eyes glistening as I type.
When the process was finished, I was gifted an aftercare package filled with everything I might need during my bodyâs healing and adjustment process- and more!
I was moved by the care and attention to detail, and I am not alone there! I have since told dear friends about my experience, and we have each teared up with emotion, all of us wishing we each had always had this option in our youth, and grateful it now exists.
I have endless gratitude for the team at TIA Flatiron. I cannot thank you enough for this life-changing, immensely positive, medical experience. I will continue to sing your praises to everyone who will...
Read moreWanted to wait almost 24 hours before I posted my review, mainly because I wanted to make sure it wasnât coming from a place of emotion rather than logic. Tia came highly recommended to me by someone I really trust whoâs been having issues finding the right kind of care. As a black woman, you have to understand isnât easy at all. My first appointment was about two weeks ago and I had the âWoman Wellnessâ visit. I had a decent visit and I felt like the price was justified because of everything that was included. I mentioned to the NP during my first visit about some stomach issues Iâve been having. She informed me I should book a FOLLOW UP consult regarding this issue specifically. I went on their site (which is terrible to navigate) and found the service targeted for digestive and abdominal issues. The pricing wasnât clear but since it was literally a consult, I assumed it wouldnât be as my first visit which was $300 in total. Imagine my surprise when I checked in and the consult alone is $220. I almost (politely) refused care however, there is a cancellation policy that wouldâve been implicated meaning I wouldâve been charged in full whether I was seen or not. I decided âhey itâs for my health. Iâm sure this will be an informative visit and give me some of the answers Iâve been looking for.â Yeah, it wasnât. My NPâs name was Jane. My appointment was five minutes. She had barely any questions for me. I informed her the issue Iâm there for has put me in the ER TWICE last week and she told me to take a stool softener. She got up and walked out. No goodbye, no follow up. Just another example of bottom tier care we receive. I left out in tears. This is NOT okay. I spoke to membership services. A woman named Katie told me the charge will be reversed and she will email me the refund proof of this. Never received anything and the charge went through. My bank will certainly be called. Thereâs NO way this experience is acceptable. I am not someone who complains much. I am willing to pay for my health, but this is just another example of how truly hard it is as a POC specifically a black person, to receive the kind of care we truly deserve. I will obviously never come back here and will inform others of the same....
