The Cathedral Basilica is the First Catholic Church on Long Island, as well as the Dioscean Cathedral, and being in the Diocese of Brooklyn, I wanted to visit it. It's quite nice, but it's so devoid of detail. I can't imagine it being so white and Grey when it was new, maybe I'm wrong. The baptistry mosaic throws the entire interior off, and the altar rail is all but gone. So I'm not a fan of the lack of aesthetic detail and all the lack of color on the walls, but I love the architecture. Huge windows, the baldachin, and pretty architectural detail over where the side altars would have been, as well as the columns. The windows are beautiful, take a look! I will have to stop by at some point for Mass...

Quiet catholic sanctuary for prayers and contemplation, illuminated by Led lights adding emphasis to uncomplicated structure, regal architecture separating it from the ordinary. Noticeable signage with clear directions, equalized acoustics that sets mood for participation of parishioners, few but large statues, stations of the cross, just above eye level are attention-catching

One of the most beautiful churches I’ve ever seen. You can feel the spirituality and love of God in this blessed place. The mass was excellent. For us catholics, if you’re in Brooklyn on a Sunday don’t miss the mass here.

Hidden in an area of Downtown Brooklyn between the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges is a beautiful edifice which unfortunately for many remains an unknown. Follow me as I enter The Cathedral Basilica of St. James. Open the simple wooden doors, enter into the modest vestibule, silently push open the inside doors and step into an awe-inspiring church. In its simplicity, the Cathedral of St. James is magnificent. Sunlight blazes through the amazing stained glass windows and we are immediately inspired by their beauty and the story they each tell. We slowly walk toward the main altar and a sense of true spirituality overcomes us. Mass begins and we listen to the heavenly notes emitting from the cathedral's glorious organ. I watch the parishioners file up to receive the Eucharist, and the fellowship of the congregation moves me. This is a beautiful church both structurally and may I say, emotionally. I find great solace within its walls. Perhaps...

Good morning St. James Cathedral. Sorry to say but the Organist lingers too long to start music and acclamations. The Alleluiah! should be uplifting, because God has been risen. When I hear it sung in your Cathedral, I tell myself; they are killing the Lord all over again. The hymns! they grag It too much. Alleluiah! Lift up the Lord for he has risen indeed.! Don't get me wrong I know some of the hymns should be slow, but not all of it. Sing a few uplifting hymns. Fr. Patterson I enjoy the way he celebrates mass. I feel like I had...
