When first wanting to place an order, I called her bake shop multiple times to receive no answer. I decided to drive down there on a day they were schedule to be open, to my surprise they weren’t. I decided to call once more, the person who answered lack customer service. No good morning or how may I help you just “Ashley’s” when answering the phone. When I stated I had a few questions, they stated “go on the website”. I should’ve known from there, smh.
My original order was a 4inch two layer “bento box” style cake for my daughter’s 8th birthday. I was quoted $125 + tax, equalling to $133. No problem, I’ll never argue with people pricing.
After submitting half for the deposit, I realized that I was never asked what flavor I would like. I emailed Ashley, letting her know we didn’t discuss flavors. She said that in the invoice it says to discuss flavors before paying deposit or the flavor automatically be Vanilla. I expressed that honestly I didn’t read that part of the invoice & if she can allow me to change it. She said sure, as a one time courtesy. I explained that on her website I’m only seeing flavors for mini cakes and if she can let me know what flavors & fillings she offer. We had a bit of back & forth about that because she was very resistant on letting me know what flavors she usually does. I’m no baker, so my creative pallet only goes so far. I didn’t think bouncing ideas off of each other would be an issue especially when she has more knowledge in this. She stated that for the fillings, there will be a price increase. I didn’t understand why, because all cakes need a filling. Why is it an extra charge? Also, why aren’t the filling flavors & prices listed on your website so people can be aware of the price adjustment?
After being frustrated about her being unhelpful and resistant, I decided to change my order from the 4inch two layer cake, to 2 dozen cupcakes (chocolate & vanilla). My balance was supposed to be around $3 but she changed the invoice again which led the remain balance to $8.
On the day of pick up (4/30), I emailed her asking what time can I come pick up since we also didn’t discuss a pick up time. Her response was “You will normally pickup anytime during normal business hours (listed on your invoice and your receipt) however you may have skipped over the part where we are closed on Tues/Weds.” She then stated that the slipped by her as well and that I can pick up from her Husband’s restaurant next door during business hours.
I found her to be very passive-aggressive. As a baker, it’s important to confirm key details with your customers.. not just rely on what’s written in an invoice to ensure clarity and satisfaction. Pointing out that I “skipped over”something felt unnecessary, especially since she accepted an order for a day she’s normally closed. That kind of tone and lack of accountability made the experience frustrating.
I did get to her husband’s bakery prior to business hours (around 1pm) because my daughter’s class party was for 2:30pm. Once I arrived there, she stated that “in the invoice it says during business hours”, that the cupcakes weren’t ready and it’ll be about 15 mins. That was frustrating as well because why are you completing an order the day of?
The children in my daughter’s class said that they were okay, and some did say that it was too sweet.
Ashley’s tone, lack of help and passive aggressiveness made the experience terrible. It would be helpful if she invest in a website creator to help list flavors & fillings (along with prices) that usually does on her website. Also, a customer service class would do her well.
I did look forward to supporting a black owned business but unfortunately I won’t be returning. I wish her and her...
Read moreFirst and foremost, I decided to use this place after trying multiple cupcakes. I must say they taste good. Hence, I decided to order a cake for my milestone bday and was disappointed. One thing I didn’t like about this establishment is that you cannot speak to the baker over the phone. Everything is via email and maybe that should have been the first sign. Yet and still, I went through it. After being asked for a picture I sent one and was told that they could do something similar. My issue is that the similar part did not occur. Then when I called to ask why it looked the way it did I was given an attitude and was told “if I would have came in person I would have seen someone else came since we both had the same cake”. I don’t even know what that means. All I know is the way this person was talking didn’t sit right with me. The cake seemed very bland for a milestone bday cake and when I mentioned it she just reiterated that she could do something similar. All in all, it definitely...
Read moreI strongly believe in supporting my people.. which is why my sister and I visited Ashley’s delicious treats. I have been following this business on instagram for a long time and could not wait for the opportunity to need a cake. A couple of weeks ago my sister and I visited the business. I waited so long to write a review because I didn’t want to have to. The service really bothered me. We were not greeted when we entered the establishment. I had to ask if anyone could help us even though there were two people behind the counter. The person/owner was very short with us while answering our questions. I believe that good customer service is first and foremost. Especially when potentially spending a large sum of money. We did purchase some cupcakes even though we were not treated properly so we could support the black business. The...
