Bassett Furniture — Local services in Newington

Update: I’ve had the sofa eight months and love it. I’m on it all the time. Zero regrets.

Original review: I bought a sofa here today that I feel really good about, with the help of design consultant Todd M.

I’m the type who obsessively researches big ticket purchases, and I had been doing so for the last two years. I came in knowing I was ready to buy at Bassett, but that was about it.

The man spent 3-4 hours with me while I weighed out every factor, and then had me go home, sleep on it and finalize today. Within the first thirty minutes he knew the sofa I was going to pick. He didn’t put it like that. What he said was “You sit on that couch like it’s already yours. You aren’t sitting on the others like that.”

So he knew, right? And yet he still spent three more hours, and gave me all the time I needed to get comfortable. No rush, no pressure. He prepared two other quotes for entirely different sofas and spent an hour choosing custom fabric for a different one. Insanely patient.

And I’m thankful! Now I get to enjoy the satisfaction of having really thought through my decision for myself. No buyers remorse, no what-ifs. Just a feeling of completion. I’m lucky to have met Todd yesterday. He’s a skilled professional and a good egg.

As for the sofa, I landed on the Moby 97” 2/2 sofa with premium seat cushions, lounge back cushions and four additional square down pillows. I like that it has a bench-made hardwood frame with sinuous springs. For my budget (about $3000), this felt like the right balance of comfort, durability and affordability....

I had the best experience at Bassett’s in Newington. The designer I worked with, Lisa Ruglio, was great! I had gone to just about every furniture store around Suffield and Manchester, and literally could not find what I was looking for, until I went to Bassett. Lisa looked at my inspiration room and talked to me about what I like regarding sofa’s, loveseat’s, chair’s, etc. and the fabric choices. I had just moved into my new house and my current furniture made the living room look dark and uninviting. She spent a considerable amount of time with me and my friend looking at the furniture and fabrics. After I picked out the fabrics and some of the furniture I liked, Lisa came out to my place to take measurements and get a feel for the space. Lisa then went back and came up with some ideas that we sat and talked about. My first choices were over my budget, but Lisa had some ideas and they worked out great. Not only did I get a fabulous living & dinning room, but I also learned a lot and have someone that I will continue to work with and would also recommend to others. Let me also say that the furniture is high quality, functional and comfortable. My living room and dining room are now bright and inviting. We have had our Bassett pieces for a week now, and it completes our home renovation and compliments everything so well! The furniture is sturdy and completely solid, the upholstery is comfortable and so easy to clean!

We had a great experience with Connor at Bassett Furniture. From the moment we walked into the store, we could tell that the quality of the pieces was exceptional and way more elevated than the other stores in the area. Connor helped us tremendously and was able to understand our style and what we were looking for right away. He came for a home visit and was extremely thorough with measuring the space and bringing the samples so that we could see how it looked in our house.
