I love this Farmers Market! It may be small, but it offers such a wonderful variety — fresh and organic fruits, vegetables, baked goods, juices, teas, sauces, oils, soups, seafood, plants, flowers, and more. Every vendor I’ve visited has been great, and I’ve never had a single complaint about the products or the experience — until today.
I’m sure this was just one vendor, but I wanted to share my experience so it might reach him or his business. It was the Middle Eastern vendor who sells different spreads, dips, kefir, etc. I hate to bring this up, but as a brown person, I felt clear discrimination based on my appearance.
While I waited to be helped, I noticed how warmly and enthusiastically he greeted and assisted white customers — smiling, answering questions, offering samples, and engaging with them.
