Signed up and on day one, they schedule me with a trainer. They set me up with someone that says he “specializes” in lower back pain, so I paid in full for 2 months of sessions. The first few weeks it went well, then I experienced pain after he pushed me to do leg presses and leg curls (with too much weight) which I said caused me to have a lot of pain in the past
Then a few days after another session I was having debilitating pain and could hardly function for 2wks. This was the entire reason I agreed to seeing a trainer, bc this is what happens every time I do legs. Luckily, my work allowed me to go on light duty for a few weeks. This could’ve cost me my job. I was limited, couldn’t do any activities and had to take pain meds just to lay down or sleep. Had to go to chiropractic therapy 3x per week to alleviate the pain and get moving around better. Just sitting in a chair was very painful down the back of my legs
I asked if I could get a refund for my unused sessions bc I wouldn’t be able to continue and he said no. So I was talked into this being told I could be helped, like it’s in my best interest to do these sessions. Not only did it not help but I wasted over 400$ on trainer/membership $ that yielded me zero results and I was laid up during part of summer, unable to do anything. I could’ve done the same myself without paying a trainer. I thought that getting hurt and not being able to continue would warrant a refund but apparently the policy is to take peoples money no matter what. On top of all of that, crunch charged the credit card again for the trainer (90$), which shouldn’t have happened and the refund still isn’t there. It’s been weeks. So Im canceling my gym membership and I won’t be joining again. The only reason I’m posting a review is so others hopefully don’t go through the same thing I did. The no refund policy is ridiculous. People can’t help if they have back problems that restrict them from lifting. If a trainer can’t improve your condition and it’s causing pain shouldn’t you get a refund for the remaining sessions??
Also the gym prices are way higher than last time I was a member, the gym is always too packed to even get a bench, it’s very frustrating trying to just get a workout in. Same thing at Florence and Oakley. It’s no longer 24hrs either. So I have to wait until after 7 or 8pm if I want to work out and not have to skip around my routine or stand in line to get a bench. All of it is a rip off and a waste of...
Read moreCrunch Newport facility as a whole is okay, but there’s some major problems starting with management. Shelby, the current manager, is the most unhelpful condescending person I’ve had to deal with. A couple of months ago I lost a silver bracelet, which had sentimental value to me, and it turns out one of the employees found it and placed in the lost and found bin(inside the employee area) for me. When I came in to pick it up, it was gone and I was told nobody knew where it could be. So I messaged Shelby, and after a lot of back and forth, I was informed by her that she had magically reviewed 30 hours worth of footage in the span of half a day and that she did not see anything, and there was nothing else she could do. I also asked if I could review the footage myself, and was left on read at the request. After a couple of weeks, I was planning to cancel my membership(due to moving out of state) so I asked an employee at the front desk when I needed to get that done by in order not to be charged again. Michael told me by September 2nd or before. Fast forward about 2 weeks ago when I went to cancel my membership due to moving out of the state, and she informed me that because my policy said I had to give them a 10 day period for them to cancel and me not being charged, that there was nothing she could do and it was out of her hands. I told her I did not authorize the transaction and she said I could take it up with the company in charge of transactions. I was charged anyway. The problem here lies with the lack of training with employees. They have no clue what the correct information is for customers because they do not have a good leader. To say I’m very disappointed with management is an understatement. Crunch please do better with the people you put to represent your...
Read moreI love this gym!
I recently returned to this gym post-covid and I’m so glad to be back. This place has all the aspects I need in a gym... variety, cleanliness, personal training and child care. It also has other aspects that keep bringing me back... friendly staff, professional management, good atmosphere. Shane hires good people and has made this gym my happy place.
As a working, single mom, most weeks it’s hard to find the time to get to the gym but scheduling personal training keeps me on a good schedule. I really liked my pre-covid trainers (Seth and Marissa) but the new team is fabulous! Kyle made me a personalized plan after listening to my goals and testing my current fitness. I have more old injuries than I like to admit and I often find them defeating when trying to stay fit. Kyle listened about my injuries and works around them without making me feel discouraged or defensive. Plus it’s nice to have a family-man trainer to chat with. Having a knowledgeable, creative trainer is a bonus too. I’m familiar with working out and yet he’s teaching me new movements, new combinations and keeps things evolving. I don’t think I realized how much I needed his help. The quarantine 15 is finally starting to come off, but more importantly I think I’m a better, stronger mom after starting back with Crunch.
For me this place is a great balance of professional and familiar. I...
