Jot India Restaurant (Newport) — Restaurant in Newport

My wife and I had dinner at Jot last night before we went and caught a movie. I had the Aloo Matar, my Wife the Veg Jalfrezi, and we shared an order of Hot Spicy Naan and Vegetable Samosas.

Firstly the food was absolutely amazing. My Wife and I typically have Indian about once every week or every other week. This is the best tasting Indian food I've had in Cincinnati. The Samosas were perfectly seasoned. The chutneys were the best I've had. The Hot and Spicy Naan put any Garlic Naan I've had to shame. The Aloo Matar was again seasoned perfectly. I've never realized before that I believe most Indian places over season their Aloo Matar, this was not seasoned as strongly as I've had but enough to still taste the seasoning flavor and it was just amazing, it gave it a lighter fresher taste. The potatoes were cooked perfectly, they still held their shape but fell apart when you bit into them. I'm being very critical here the only thing I will say was the Basmati rice was a kind of bland, I'm used to it being more fragrant and seasoned a little bit more, but honestly the rest of the food was so good this wasn't an issue at all.

Secondly, our server Sing was absolutely great. He was attentive, fun, high spirited, made us both feel welcome and that he cared. The way he carried himself, and the way he spoke was 10/10. We made a joking comment that we were going to catch a movie after the meal, and he went into over drive making sure that our orders were put in, and they we had everything we needed. Sing was making she we were making all the previews. Likely, the best service I have ever gotten at a restaurant.

Update: Went here tonight for my 40th bday. Brought my mom for her first time eating Indian food. The restaurant was less than a third full when we arrived. Waited 53 minutes for our appetizers to show up. Had to flag down kitchen staff because the waiter spent those 50 minutes socializing. When we asked where our appetizers were, we were told that there was some confusion. Appetizers came out 15 mins later. Then waited another 24 minutes for our meal. My Naan was missing. Naan didn't arrive until late in the meal. In the 2.5 hours we were there, the server only spoke to us 4 times. We had to flag down a buser to get boxes. Then we waited 5-10 minutes before getting up, going to the bar, and asking for our check. Our waiter was not the one that brought the check, and despite the "confusion", the enormously long wait, and part of my meal not being present while eating --- they still charged full price. Beyond frustrated. You guys were our favorite Indian restaurant. I watched the server spend 5-10 minute chunks talking PER table at several tables. We got a grand total of about 3-4 minutes of interaction including the time it took to take drink orders, food orders, and mention to us there was "confusion" about our order. The compete lack of acknowledging our experience is disappointing.

Great food, atmosphere is ok, service is alright, but prices are a smidge high. Overall pretty good spot...

Another great experience. Originally we went to longhorns but the service was nonexistent so we went to Jot- always reliable... awesome food, fast and friendly service and clean restaurant .. I love the chicken curry with the garlic naan and bhaturra bread. Yum!!

We live close and go regularly.

Absolutely thrilled that a really good Indian restaurant opened up here. We like our food spicy and I love their level 5 chicken curry. He always gets the tiki masala with green peppers and onions with the highest spice level. Both were very good today but honestly His was awesome! I don’t always try because there is a spice in that dish I do not love. I am glad I tried it today though as the spice level was awesome and the green pepper and onion adds so much to this dish!

I love the naan bread and bhaturra bread- far more then I should :)

We both look forward to the buffet so we can try the other flavors… we love what we get here so it’s hard to switch it up.
