El Rio Grande Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Newport

First off I've never been more disrespected in my life before coming to this restaurant. I used to eat here all the time with my dad but since covid we didn't have the time to come here and I regret even coming back to it and bringing my boyfriend and friend. I don't know if it's because they're white or not but they got treated so bad and got ignored while they could understand me completely I'm Hispanic and never experienced this at any mexican restaurants I've brought them too. The food was gross it was out within a 4 minutes of placing the order it's shouldn't have been that quick especially since they were so busy. It took them 15 minutes to even bring us chips and salsa and the staff were so rude my boyfriend tried to explain to the sever that he didn't like the food and she pretended not to understand what he was saying so my friend told her for him and she acted the same way with her so then I told her the same exact thing and then she tried to argue with my boyfriend and friend about their food. I told her the sour cream was bad and it had a consistency of jello and it's not supposed to be like that I should know I also work in the restaurant industry so I wasn't even bothered by it but she continued to argue with them so I asked for a manager it took maybe 8 minutes to get a "manager" and I know for sure it was another server because they had on the same uniform and she was arguing with me about how she wasn't going to fix anything for us. I didn't expect them to give us anything free or take anything off but my boyfriend didn't even eat his food because it was just that bad. His food had no flavor and it was just watery my friends food was about the same. They treated them weird from the start to begin either but i brushed it off saying it's because they were probably stressed from being busy but no that's no reason to be so disrespectful twords someone that would've been happy to have his food remade but they told him they weren't going to do that either and continued to are with him with they avoided talking with me and continued arguing with my friend and my boyfriend until I told them to stop and bring us the checks i told them it was going to be 2 separate checks and they tried to charge us for everything together on two separate checks my boyfriend was about to pay for it too and I told the waitress to come back and fix it she tried to act like they were diffrent and i told her no they have the exact same things on both of them they were trying to over charge them twice. We always leave a tip but i refuse to leave one especially after the way they treated them. I've told everyone i know not to go to this location anymore. I'm just so disappointed that people...

This place deserves a 5 star but what stopped it, is that when we arrive to this place he had come from the NEWPORT AQUARIUM we had drive from Columbus to NEWPORT in order to see the Aquarium, we were hungry and we had not had a real meal for a few hour, were recommend this place. When we arrived we were told by Andres their was no table for 10 people and that their were booths that we can take the only thing was that we had to separate into two booths, we were OK with that. we took our seat and the waitress come to take our order and she had asked us that if we were all together and we had said yes. That when she said give me a sec and let me find you a table where all 10 of you can fit. She had started cleaning a table and she was fixing it when Andres comes and he asked her in Spanish "What in the world did you do?" she tried to explained what she did and he had gotten mad and slammed the menu on the table and said "but i had guest waiting for this table" my boyfriends nephew told the waitress that it was OK that we where going to stay were we where. She said "no it OK the other guest are going to sit in the other table that is clean already plus they are not to many" when we took the table we where sitting their for about 15 min until the waitress came back to take our order only the drinks. Andres went to the table that we were at and wiped it down. note we had not sat for more then 3 min. More guest arrived they had took their order and they had arrived after us. when the waitress came back after 10 min to give us our drinks she said "I'm very sorry I'm taking long but i have 5 more table to take and i would ask if you can wait a little and i will come back to take you order" we said that is OK. She came back 20 min later to take our order. i was getting more frustrate because we had CHILDREN ages 3 and 4 and they were hungry, she keep on getting more and more table to take orders and our food came 25 min later. KID ate that was more important. But over all i would not returned even if that guy name Andres fixes his attitude and treats the waitress with RESPECT and of course the GUEST!!. A friend took me here for my first time ever the other day. He said it had been many years since he had been but they used to have this steak fajita to share. I could tell he had fond memories of it. So we ordered a couple margaritas and steak fajitas to share.. The ambience was good. Staff could have been a little friendlier I don't think I saw one smile but they were efficient. My friend was not impressed with the margaritas I think I've only had one margarita in the past so I couldn't tell a good one from a bad one. They bring out this huge huge platter sizzling full of almost Raw onions and bell peppers (I hear veggies are healthier raw) mixed with overcooked strips of dried steak (and meats safer thoroughly cooked) Sat it down and walked away without so much as a nod of the head & walked away. We just kind of looked at each other noticing no silverware plates or directions on how we were supposed to eat this sizzling pile in front of us. We finally stopped a lady and clumsily asked her if this was all or were we missing anything (taco bell being pretty much my only reference for Mexican food) which started a minute or two of misunderstood conversation between us leaving me and my friend feeling even more perplexed about the whole thing but luckily our server showed up quickly with all the things we needed. Neither of us wanting to complain we scarfed down a couple I didn't even finish my margarita boxed it all up in hopes that someone or animal would eat at least some of the 4 boxes it took to fit it all in & made an excuse to quickly leave.
