I have utilised Solid Gold many times over the years. Expect a lengthy turnaround for repairs or any custom work; that is standard in the industry and should be anticipated, regardless of whom you consult with at any company.
The work that has been done for me in years' past was creative and executed with technical precision and quality materials. While expensive and often several months' wait, it was very much worth the time and funds. In recent years, especially this last request for a resizing and conversion of a pendant to a pin, I was advised the work could not be done without potential harm to the stones or discolouration to the sterling...of which I had advised I fully accepted burn-off of the rhodium plating to any sterling surface and had never had issues with natural garnets being damaged in prior spot-soldering projects, unless the gems were left fully unprotected.
I have no issue with being told work cannot be done or there is risk in handling it. I have no issue waiting a week or two to find this out when a professional is away from their bench. Waiting two months to be advised a routine request cannot be completed is frustrating, especially with the awareness from having done work in the same materials during my Bachelor's programme that at least one of the adjustments (a pendant to pin conversion in sterling while protecting a set gemstone--in my classwork case, an amethyst) was part of my 300-level course final, which I completed without issue. I am, for full transparency, not a professional jeweler. And I wear that pendant regularly to this day.
I can appreciate if a shoppe no longer wishes to take on small tasks that are less profitable for the amount of time given. But please don't tell me you can't do the work; just advise you don't want to--especially when there is an established ongoing client relationship with excellent payment history.
This is a reputable business for fine jewelry sales and sizing that I still recommend highly to all, but there is a distinctly low threshold for work accepted...
Read moreFirst time going into this store and WOW was I was impressed. Not only is this store beautiful and clean but the staff is all amazing and knowledgeable. I wasn’t looking for anything specific just window shopping, but after talking to Claire she offered to clean my ring for me. She noticed I had a stone missing and informed me that they would be able to fix it if I wanted. This made my whole day as I wasn’t expecting to get that done. After getting my ring back I am so in love as it looks brand new again. Claire was so sweet and helpful with any questions I had. If you’re looking for the perfect gift for someone special or even need some jewelry cleaned or repaired I highly recommend checking out this store! I know I’m so...
Read more13 years ago, I started an add a pearl necklace for my niece when she was born with the intention on giving it to her on her 16th birthday. Every occasion for several years, I would stop in and add a pearl. I eventually moved out of state and continued to do business with Solid Gold whenever I was in town. A few weeks ago, I decided to finish the necklace and worked with them over the phone to handle it remotely. I received the finished product yesterday, and I am over the moon! It is absolutely exquisite! Their staff is always so friendly and went to a great effort to make sure it was done right every time. Definitely go see them for your jewelry needs...you won’t be...
