My husband and I have never had NEW furniture, only the "new to us" variety. Recently, when sitting on our couch put us at the same height as sitting on the floor, only in a colossal butt pit, we ditched the sofa and lamented our options. We don't like debt and we don't like haggling. We decided, the day before Thanksgiving to go see Bob's selection because we've got a friend or two who were satisfied and also because standing to watch TV is not for everyone.
We were greeted immediately by JR in a friendly manner. He asked if we were looking for something in particular. My husband was frank, meaning forthright here because his name is Ken, and responded, "we are very large people and need something that can support us over time comfortably. JR said, "three things are important here: How comfortable it is 2: How much is costs and 3: How it looks in your home. We easily crossed off #3 because sheets over a dog crate would look better than the sofa that we just ditched. Luckily for us, we liked all the styles that we saw. JR explained how the sofas are framed and steered us to the most durable options.
The very first one we sat on was my husband's tushiemate... that's like a soul mate for your butt. However, we looked for quite a while and sat on/tested all the contenders.
JR told us about Bob's nifty cafe where you can sit and eat complementary ice cream whist considering your purchase. There was also coffee, cookies (not very yummy, actually) and several kinds of candy. We had some jelly beans, rare and hard to find out of season. I will interject here that at NO TIME did we have any pressure from JR. He came and went, checked in on us to answer questions and also suggested, when we said we might need to measure one space, that we take pictures of the front and back of the display information for easy reference. He was going to let us walk out the door with ZERO pressure. My husband and I sat, resat and sat again on that first option and did, indeed purchase not only the sofa, but a loveseat which we were not planning on. This means that we are actually removing a piece of furniture from our living room before it's "officially" dead.
We decided on delivery, although we are close, because Bob's will bring it in and set it up. We also got the goof insurance because there are some slobs in this house and stains are a very real possibility. Again, NO HARD SALE here. He simply explained the benefits and left us to make our own decisions.
Our delivery will be on Sunday, much sooner than we'd anticipated. I will append this review once the delivery is complete and we've had some time to enjoy our purchase.
We also opted for Bob's 0% for 12 months option. That credit process took about 20 minutes, but that's because we did a whole lot of chatting. JR has some interesting stories and was very easy to talk to. It's also likely that my "Italian Goodbye" came into play.
This was a terrific buying experience. If the furniture is as sturdy and comfortable in our home as it was in the showroom, then this is the start of a beautiful relationship. Thanks Bob's and thanks JR.
UPDATE Furniture delivered on Sunday. Perfect condition and the delivery guys were friendly, set everything up quickly and easily. It's beautiful furniture, heavy, solid, comfy. Our cat NEVER comes into the living room and apparently has just been waiting for new furniture! I'll update...
Read moreI gave it one star only because no stars is not an option. Every single aspect of the experience was horrible from the time they took my money forward. The salesman basically told me that they do not keep furniture in stock and that I would have to have it delivered, at the cost of $40 of course. Okay, okay I can get buy that.
Then the horrible experience took yet another turn. The delivery folks were horrific. Not the type of people you want to let in your home. First off they dressed like thugs, smelled like a mix of horrific body odor and bad weed, and it was doubtful that any of the three of them hadn't been in jail at least once. They assembled the furniture as I watched over them and of course they stripped out one of the legs of the end tables using a cordless drill. They took the damaged piece with them and we called customer service from my cellphone before they left. The young lady from customer service told me that the damaged part would be replaced and, at my request, they would ship it to the store so that I wouldn't have to take another morning off of work.
Then came the run around. I get a call later that evening and I am told that they are scheduling the truck to come to my home to exchange my damaged piece of furniture. I explain that the damaged piece was taken by the delivery crew. They give me attitude on the telephone because someone put the work order in for an exchange, not another unit. They reluctantly schedule the piece to be delivered to the store, but tell me that can't assemble it if it is delivered there. I had to fight with them about not bringing it to my house. I explained that those folks will never again step in my home. I am a little more selective about who I let in my house, simply as a matter of safety and comfort. (Yes, they were that bad.)
After several additional arguments over the phone, as well as 2 additional weeks of them continuously postponing the delivery date I finally tell them either they deliver the furniture in to the store or I will happily load the two items I did have into the back of my truck and they can just give me my money back. That threat was the only thing that seemed to make them step it up. Even after that they gave me a delivery date and then the run around, adding more time to the date.
I will NEVER as long as I live spend another penny at a Bob's Discount Furniture Store. RUN AWAY RUN...
Read moreSalesman was very kind and knowledgeable. Everything else about working with Bob’s is less than satisfactory and overall a scam. Everyone working for this company knows what happens behind the scenes, the men assembling my items laughed when I asked if this (damaged items being delivered multiple times) happens often. I ordered a bedroom set, couch, and kitchen table with chairs. I can only speak for the bedroom set and couch so far since the table and chairs were too new to have right away (still not delivered send prayers it comes not damaged lol). Couch is 10/10 so far but I have seen awful reviews and a hassle for their couches and trying to return them if necessary. Bedroom set furniture has been damaged 2 times so far with our deliveries. Hopefully 3rd time is a charm next week. We have received damaged pieces and missing parts. Apparently the bedroom set I ordered only came with a headboard and not the entire bed frame/rails/footboard. Very deceiving when ordering. When I called the store I still had to pay even more to resolve the issue that was caused by their computer error. I should have cancelled this whole order based off of this misunderstanding. I didn’t realize the issues would continue for over a month and beyond. Bob’s only delivers to certain areas on certain days. Ours happens to be only Friday’s. With each damage, we have to wait a week and the items still come damaged more so than the previous week!! Taking time off of work to receive products that we spent decent money on that just end up going back in the truck due to lack of quality checking in the warehouses. The warehouses need some SERIOUS quality control. I have never had such bad service with nothing to compensate for your troubles. Communicating with customer service is very difficult but can be done. I would not order from Bob’s again due to the many complications and I am not usually one to complain or stick up for myself but I hope I can help someone with this review. I do not recommend Bob’s unless they have a serious redo with their warehouses and customer service reps. Good luck if you place an order with them, may the odds be ever...
