I'll start off with the atmosphere. We at downstairs. It was functional and very clean. Not intimate, plush, or cushy, which was fine with us, but why I gave only 3 stars for that. The servers were very efficient - brought the chips and salsa right away, drinks followed directly after. The salsa was really nice - smooth, not chunky, but flavorful. The chips were fresh. I had the Pechuga a la Plancha, which was basically grilled chicken breast with rice, beans, and small salad. The chicken was moist and very flavorful, and the pineapple slice on top was a nice touch. It was probably just a tad salty for some people, but it went well with my Margarita! The rice and beans were very tasty as well. My wife had the Birria tacos - OMG, so yummy! Three tacos, double shells with cheese in between. The meat was so tender and the sauce was wonderful! Pro tip: If you want Margaritas, go for the big one off the bat - I thought I would just get the regular house marg, and it was small by my standards.
We live not far from Don Chemas, and we will definitely be back! The food was great and the price...
Read moreStopped in for lunch first time, but sadly hugely disappointed with the food. My husband ordered grilled chicken with extra rice. He doesn’t eat beef or pork, but server chose something from the menu that had both. Bad mistake! And the chicken breast was described as whole and grilled, came out split and fried with all the no no’s on top. He Sent it back and tried the talipia. No good either. Didn’t even taste like talipia, rice bland and no flavor. Not a winner. As for myself I ordered the grilled salmon with rice and beans. Salmon grilled no flavor at all. Beans pureed, not a bean on the plate, and the rice, well why bother. Tasteless! On the bar side my husband ordered a shot of vodka neat. Asked what the bar brand was, he was told Fleishman’s. Perfect, well the next shot came out as Tito’s. Didn’t order Tito’s, the gasoline flavored vodka. No bueno. Myself I went from a Dos Equios to a margarita. Sadly my triple sec and tequila drink didn’t cut it. Where’s the lime? Oh well live and learn we won’t be back for...
Read moreTo be honest the food in this place was pretty good, we went in for dinner on a Sunday evening. However the split unit was turn led on (green indicator light) but it was way to hot. We wanted to sit down and enjoy the meal but it was hard to do with no A/C in such a hot day and a restaurant that was fairly busy when I asked the waiter to adjust the temperature, she said it wasn’t working. Additionally, the waiter asked us what type of tequila we wanted in our margaritas to what I replied, “all with rail or house brand”. When the bill came in we were charged for premium alcohol on 2 of the frozen margaritas. I questioned the bill, she explained that all frozen margaritas were made with premium brand tequila ONLY. Something we were not told when placing the order even after expressing that we wanted rail alcohol. After eating we rushed out of the place as soon as we could to get out of the extremely hot room. We will not visit the...
