While dropping my dog Laszlo off at K9 Resorts Luxury Pet Hotel North Olmsted on (06-22-24 @ 1pm), he fell on the flooring in his room (Luxury Suites accommodations). It was so slippery that I was having trouble walking on the flooring with tennis shoes on. I immediately showed a high level of concern for him falling in that manor due to his prior history of a torn ACL (surgical repair was done 06-2023). I walked to TJ Maxx and bought a yoga mat and foam pads at my own expense to ensure my dogs safety. I told the facility I absolutely can't have him falling like that again. Later that same day (06-22-24 @ 4:57pm) I called to check on Laszlo and they ensured me he was doing well and at that time I requested they give him 1 gabapentin to help him relax and due to his fall. On Monday (06-24-24 @ 4:45pm - Sunday I received a text stating he was doing well why didn't call that) I called the facility to check on Laszlo and I was told he was doing great, therefore, I felt he was in good standing condition mentally and physically since I was told he was doing great and enjoying play time. (Phone service was limited since I was out of the country)
I picked Laszlo up on Friday (06-28-24 @ 9am). I could tell immediately from looking at him through the glass door that he was not himself. I was informed at that time by the front desk that he had been peeing in his room, which is extremely out of character for my dog, and the first time I heard of this behavior occurring during his stay. To have a dog who is fully house trained with no history of accidents urinating where they sleep and eat is absolutely a sign of distress. Upon our return home, I quickly noticed all the physical and mental issues going on with Laszlo (06-28-24 9:38am). I called his vet for a same day (emergency visit), which was scheduled without issue.
I then called the facility to speak with the owner (Ms. Hess) because I was absolutely appealed by the condition my dog was in after staying in their "luxury" accommodations. Ms. Hess became defensive and stated they did care for my dog, and the dog I was describing isn't the dog they cared for. Ms. Hess also stated that no one saw or reported any physical wounds and/or sores on Laszlo, which I find incredibly unbelievable since they did bathe him twice during his 6 night stay. I interrupted Ms. Hess and told her this isn't something that is up for debate as my dog clearly had 5 very visible wounds on him. I was clearly very angry and Ms. Hess only escalated the issue. As the conversation progressed, I was more angry due to the lack of accountability. Ms. Hess then stated I was now attacking her personal character after I stated "tonight when you all warm and cozy in your bed I want you to think of how my dog was sleeping in his own urine with multiple open wounds on him" and therefore she would no longer speak with me. Isn't that funny how it's clearly just business to her, and my personal experience and how her facility didn't care for my dog was now irrelevant. As a business owner who provides services such as this facility does I feel the owners should have both personal and professional accountability.
Laszlo developed 3 hotspots and 2 ulcerated lip sores of which needed medical treatment and antibiotics. While we were at the vet, he showed outward signs of dehydration. The vet did lab work to assist his physical state because she wanted to ensure he didn't need to be hospitalized for fluids. Thankfully, his condition wasn't there yet. However, I feel that had my dog been at this facility any longer, more medical intervention would have...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI highly recommend K9 especially for anybody with a giant breed or dog that requires special attention. Iāve trusted this team here with my Beasley girl (150lb Newfoundland) for a couple of overnight/multi-night events I had to attend. After TONS of research for options around northern Ohio, and after countless calls asking about the care/quality/attentionā¦.this is the only place Iāll ever use.
Anyone with a giant breed in their senior years knows the risks of entrusting their care to somebody not experienced with giant breedsā needs. K9ās team does such a thorough intake job and it shows in just how well they know your furbuddy and what they need while youāre away. Due to Beasleyās size and her disposition to just chill with the humans (ie: she doesnāt need stimulation time with the other pups lol), I booked the luxury suite for her where itās quiet, spacious, and allows for extra human-cuddling time from the staff. It was also a cooler option temp-wise which is SO important for giant breeds since they are prone to overheating which can quickly become dangerous.
The facility is spotless level clean (human hotels should take a note from their playbook lol). Beasley has never picked up any type of illness, bugs, etc while staying here (incredibly important criteria to look for when considering boarding places). And my girl is very nervous to be away from me, so while she is thrilled to see me whenever I pick her up, I just love hearing the reports that the team gives me about her that all point to her being quite content while I was away (still nervous and preferring home, sure, but not a total wreck. So Iāll take that as a win haha.)
With all the nuances and considerations that come with a giant breed -and senior age, on top of that!- I was sooooo nervous and apprehensive about finding an overnight boarder that would āgetā Beasleyās needs. Enter: K9 Luxury Boarding/Suites....
Ā Ā Ā Read moreDropped my 3 pups off for their first time boarding at the facility while we went on vacation. I felt at ease with touring the facility- it was very clean, no bad dog odors, and you could tell the staff takes care of the dogs like their own. Not overcrowded at all and adequate staff to dog ratios for sure! Their luxury suites were the perfect size for my dogs, I love that they each got their own comfy bed and they had dog tv playing for them 24/7. In the past when my dogs have boarded at other facilities they came home smelling like urine and we would have to immediately give them baths- not exactly what you want to do when coming home from a long vacation. I love that our pups were given a bath at the facility and came home smelling fresh and clean. The only thing I wish they had were cameras to check in on the pups, but I was able to call in and check in on them daily, the staff updated me with everything going on and were transparent if there were any issues that they were able to fix quickly. I like that they have a special blend of food included in their stay- less work for us in pre packaging meals to bring to boarding, my dogs had no problems switching back to their regular food at home- no GI effects at all which is what I was worried about. My dogs came home happy and sleepy!! Will definitely be returning in...
