I dropped into this studio because it was close to the hotel where I was staying. I found the studio itself to be super nice, clean and the front desk person was helpful. However, I was super disappointed by the class I took with Melissa A.
Today's class was a series of pushes on the tread and rower to maximize speed. I'm an endurance runner so during the rest period, I typically like to slow my tread to a jog rather than a walk so I don't lose motivation.
Melissa told joggers to put their tread speed to 3 during the recover periods. When she saw that my tread was at 5.5 during one of the recovery periods, she came over to click 3. I asked her to please not to and she responded nastily, "not in my class" and clicked it to 3 anyway. I was so taken back by her response that I honestly thought about walking out of the class.
I've been a member and/or have taken classes at Orange Theory Fitness for YEARS and have ALWAYS enjoyed my workouts and the instructors.
I get it that OTF designs its classes to help its members achieve optimal fitness output/performance. Nonetheless, it should be taken into consideration that every person has a different fitness level and therefore, fitness enthusiasts should be allowed the flexibility to train at their own pace and/or level that is comfortable for them. What did it hurt by me having my tread speed at 5.5 instead of 3? I’ve never ever had an instructor do this in all my years of taking classes at OTF!

Read moreI have now been a member of OTF since 2019 and by far one of the best decisions I have made for self-care and my health and wellness. Growing up I played different sports and kept well until I stopped any physical activity and going to the gym a few years ago, I ended gaining weight to the heaviest I had ever been to a point where it started affecting my daily life, I started to feel that I was not 100 percent health-wise and I felt slowed down.
After giving OTF a try and trying several different studios my wife and I started going to the Northbrook studio and hands down it is THE best! not only does the studio have the proper spacing and cleanliness but the crew/staff is collectively unlike any other personal training or gym I have ever been to... They truly care for your health and wellness as a totality and take their time to get to know you and your goals.
Coach V has done a great job leading her team and everyone at the studio has become a part of our fitness journey, as a result now I have now lost over 25 pounds and able to maintain it... Although there are ways to go for me I feel great that I have found the best coaches to help me achieve my goals, all the while listening to some of the hottest jams and awesome playlists while working out! Read moreThis is wonderful studio with wonderful front desk staff. I am a big fan of OTF all around the world and was looking forward to this class with my girlfriends while I was in town. However, I was very disappointed with the coach Dominique who was really demanding and didn’t seem to let the class move at their own pace or make adjustments as needed.
When I chose to jog instead of walk, she came over and clicked my treadmill to walk! I was astounded. I was really looking forward to a good post-holiday sweat sesh and an amazing workout in prior to a 16 hr flight later that day. I wasn’t moving dangerously and was enjoying working hard to get my last splat point in - the whole POINT of the class 🤦🏽♀️
I’m disappointed to see others who have left reviews here had similar experiences at this studio with other coaches. This is very not the culture I have experienced in other OTF locations.
