Maharaj Indian Grill — Restaurant in Northfield Township

Not only is the food great but the wonderful gentleman who was my server was amazing!

Lets start off my reviewing the lunch entree I got. I ordered the chef recommendation which comes with tandoori chicken, buttered chicken, and lamb (I don't know what type of curry).

I asked for a spice of medium to spicy mix. Ask and you shall receive! The spice level was perfect. I wanted heat but not so much that I don't taste the food.

The buttered chicken is buttered chicken. I call this the gateway food of Indian food. It's simple. Nothing that I personally would ever rave over but was yummy. Now moving on to the lamb. Oh. My. Lanta. Cooked deliciously. The curry that it came in was also tasty. Tandoori chicken came out sizzling and was seasoned perfectly with the right amount of crisp. Tender and soft as well. Lunch came with Naan which was fluffy and it looked like it was baked fresh. Definitely not the typical flat store bought Naan. Chutney was also provided when I was seated. I ordered the mango Lassi and as you would expect it was standard and good.

Lets quickly talk about service. I came in with luggage (just came from the airport) and they held the door open for me. So kind! I was seated at the perfect seat where I could toss my luggage to the side and out of the way. I asked for a box and the check (server could tell I was still picking and eating) and he said "I'll bring the check later, no need to rush". What a man! So sweet and kind. I came during non-rush hours (after 2pm) and I felt like I wasn't a bother at all and very welcomed. I appreciated the small talk here and there too as a solo diner!

Definitely check this place out! They also have a fully stocked bar but I didn't...

Our friends and us were trying to decide on a last minute dinner plan, and we thought we should give Indian cuisine a try. Our friends had been to Maharaj Indian grill before and they suggested it was the most authentic Indian food they had ever had in Chicago! My husband and I have been to many Indian restaurants in Chicagoland area, and have not found anything that is nostalgic to our taste buds for Indian standards. Anyways so we went to Maharaj Indian Grill restaurant, upon arrival, we could immediately smell delicious Indian food like in restaurants in India! We were welcomed and then seated. The menu is elaborate- lots of delicious options to pick from. They served us complimentary papad, onions and chutney. We ordered Maharaj vegetarian snacks for appetizers (samosa and paneer pakora was delicious) and then ordered the baingan bharta and kadhai paneer for vegetable along with bread basket (garlic naan and onion kulcha was sooo good) and butter roti! We also got buttermilk with mint powder- perfect to go with India food. Everything was fresh, delicious, pleasing to the eye! The service was great and the host and servers were very polite and helpful. After our stomach was completely full with some delicious Indian food, we noticed there were No stains on our hands: meaning no food coloring added to our food which is a total plus! The food definitely hit the palate with authentic Indian flavors. I would definitely visit again and would highly recommend everyone to give this restaurant a try! I have always been very critical about indian restaurants in and around Chicago and there are hardly a few that offer good food .... Sorry good authentic Indian food . Maharaj indian grill is now on my list of my fav indian restaurants . I was driving by Northbrook and wifey wanted something vegetarian. We thought of trying this because of their good reviews . For starters , we ordered the paneer pakora , and dahi papdi . Paneer pakora was very soft and had a nice flavor . Dahi papdi was fresh and had everything except a bit more tamarind sauce but that depends on who is eating it . I like it more sweet . Due to the freshness of their appetizer , we thought they were good with their north indian cuisine . For the main course wifey ordered the kadi pakora with rice and I ordered the maharaja grill . Kadi pakora was excellent . Maharaja grill even mentions that it is for one person to look more for two . It has a lot of things starting from grilled chicken fish mutton , dal makhni , nan , Rogan Josh , rice . Everything was tasty . The star of the day was rogan josh . I think this is the best Rogan Josh I have had . Another great thing is that there is no compromise on quantity here . This is a great place to enjoy the food...
