I initially came here because it was nearby and who doesn’t love greek food. I was really excited and this order was to go for my friend and I. I was really excited by the Skordalia they had on their website as I love this (basically a mashed potatoes with garlic). Normally it is amazing!
--The AMBIENCE I came here around 4 and the place was dead quiet. Not a single person around but that could just be because of the time. Getting in and out of the lot is fairly easy and it’s a great location.
--The FOOD.
EAT I ordered the following:
Skordalia: Had so much garlic that there was seriously no way to eat this with anything. I have had this in dozens of greek restaurants and it tastes amazing with potatoes and even on it’s own but this was just horrible. Even if you heated it up - just bad! Kafte Fries: I read that someone liked these and maybe they were good when your in the restaurant but the fries were soggy and it was not appetizing. I really wanted for this to be good but it seriously was below average. Hummus: Nothing special - just hummus. Roasted Potatoes: I imagined potatoes slices baked but instead I got 6 huge potatoes wedges that were sitting in 1/2 a cup of oil or butter not sure and they were not even fully cooked. How do you mess up potatoes? Seriously… what a joke. Falafel: Tasted like they had been sitting around for hours and not even close to Pita Inn falafel. Why is this even on your menu! Greek Sausage Entree: Very greasy and to me it was bland.
Overall all the food was bland, or drenched in butter or oil or simply not cooked at all. The only thing that was edible from this entire meal was the pita. How sad is that? I paid over $40 for pita… (granted they gave me a lot of it but still). I was having stomach aches the rest of the night and didn’t finish a single thing!
--The SERVICE I called 20 min before to place the order because I wasn’t sure how long it would take and the girl taking the order was super nice and really made me excited to try the food. It was a red flag when I asked her how long it would take to make and she said 5 min… I told her what time I would be coming and to make sure to put the pita on the side and they did that. When I got to pick up the food the place was empty but it was mid day.
--The LETDOWN I really wanted to like this place and I was even going to forgive the ridiculous pricing but I cannot. The food was simply awful. I will never come back here and I advise everyone to stay away unless you want to have some health problems later down the line. (I would rather go eat at a McDonalds then come here and I despise that place.) Just because people think butter makes everything taste good - if you serve horrendous food and just drape butter or oil over it - it will not help! Seriously - how can you charge this much money for such below average mediocrity? I understand it’s Northbrook but why can’t you serve quality...
Read moreDisappointing gyro. Any restaurant is mostly about the food, bottom line. I haven't been to the area in many years, and since Nick's Gyro that used to be kiddie corner from this place (in the strip mall) was out of business, I had to satisfy my gyro craving and came to Greek Feast. Gyro is simple: pita, meat, tzatziki, white onions, sliced tomato. Easier said than done. It takes skill to do simple food justice.
My meat portion was pretty small. Probably the first time that I can remember where I didn't have to eat the meat by itself before I could dive into the sandwich. IYKYK, gyro is usually busting out of the pita. Then red onions. Ok, it's trendy, fine. But tomato chunks. And I mean CHUNKS. Not slices. At least there were enough. The meat while meager, was also dry. Not in the way that they turn up fire on the spit and get you some crispy bits, dry. Just dry as in no juiciness, all the same psuedo brown-gray color, dry. And the pita bread itself was a bit on the day old side, it wasn't pliable and soft. It made for a tough swill of my first sip of liquid. Had to push down that lump.
As mentioned, it was disappointing overall. If you have your spot for gyro stick to it. I miss Nick's across the street like nobody's business. It was the best gyro I ever had. He would make his own meat, it wasn't bought premade from Kronos, it was made in house. He made his own yogurt for the Tzatziki. You'd always see a pan of milk warming on the flat top. The portions were generous, and he was one of the nicest guys. It felt like you were eating at his house. Greek feast is definitely like eating at a chain. There's less care put into the food. I think with Greek fast food the take away is this: if it's named after the guy (or his kids) who is there every day, loosen your belt, you're gonna eat good.
I'm thinking I should have drove a few miles to Dengeos, I remember their food being consistently good. I guess the quest continues since Nick's is gone. If you have a good spot, let me know. I...
Read moreI've been going to Georgie V's and Greek Feast for years, so when my coworkers and I wanted gyros, there was only one option in my mind. I drove out of my way in a blizzard to pick up gyros from your restaurant specifically. When I got there, I ordered 4 gyros sandwiches. I was read the order back, confirming I wanted everything on them. I confirmed the order, paid, signed the receipts and left to get gas. When I picked them up, everything was fine. After driving back to work, we opened up all of our sandwiches and low and behold: falafel!! All falafel. Even falafel on the receipt. I'll be the first one to say I should have checked the receipt, and we are all human. Mistakes happen! I called the restaurant and explained what happened to the manager. He was unwilling to do anything at first, but eventually found a place in his heart to extend me the generous offer of swapping the falafel sandwiches out for gyros if I bring them back. Considering it was blizzarding out, that wasn't an option. The only response I got from the manager was "we couldn't make that mistake", and "we are willing to swap out your order if you come and pick it up". As it once again is snowing with low visibility and it took me 45 minutes to get there and back from my office, swapping out the sandwiches wasn't an option. So, instead of offering a different resolution, I was told "tough luck". Here's a piece of advice: if you want to be successful in this area, customer service is what's going to set you apart from the corporate chains. Since that doesn't seem to be in your wheelhouse, my final suggestion would be this: if you want to be nearly as successful as Georgie V's has been, hire...
