If I’m in Northfield, I’m stopping at El Triunfo—plain and simple. And honestly, sometimes I tell myself I come to Northfield just so I can grab tacos on the way out. I always get two tacos—one chorizo, one steak—and every time, they blow me away. Whatever that green sauce is… I don’t know what’s in it, but it’s creamy, it’s perfect, and I want to put it on everything. And every visit, I grab a Jarritos Tamarind soda—the only soda I ever drink. It’s my little treat because I don’t drink soda at home, but in a Mexican joint like this, it just feels right. The best part? The people. Every single time, I’m greeted with a big smile, and everyone in the restaurant looks genuinely happy with what they’re eating. It’s got that welcoming, homey feel that makes you want to keep coming back. And trust me—I have, many, many times. A happy customer, Geoffrey Serdar

The word on the street is that this restaurant has some of the best Mexican food in the state. The menu definitely points that out with weekend options of barbacoa de chivo (mini 🐐), pozole, and menudo. I had the barbacoa de res and it was rich with very tender beef cooked for hours in a family recipe broth. Tortillas come from a local Minneapolis tortilleria and are good. Rice and beans have amazing flavor. Lots of effort and passion put into them. Salsa has fire so use caution. Authentic Mexican food here. Great service. Has Jarritos soda.

Where do I begin… Every time I go to el Triunfo I tell myself this will be the last time. It’s too good and the food I eat the rest of the week is repulsive in comparison. But still, time and time again I can’t stop myself from walking through the doors of el Triunfo, or might I say heaven. The service is amazing and the food is even better (as if that was possible). If you have gone to the United States and didn’t stop at El Triunfo, it’s time to buy another ticket and fly right back.

I order Tamales two days before picking up, the lady that took my order said it would be 14.95 for 12, I live in Owatonna and drove the 34 miles just for that, when I got there and announce my self the man told me that they didn’t have any, I told repeatedly I had order them and I was told they’ll be here, he started arguing with me and I told him that I came from Owatonna just for that, I said if that’s the case the lady that took my order should had told me that, so in order not for me to argue I order burritos of carne asada . I told him one with just meat, and the cook said she wouldn’t make it, that I would have to order a carne asada plate, bunch of bs, burritos had plenty of rice, lettuce, beans but hardly any meat, for 8.00 each is a crime. To top it off when I got up to leave we didn’t even get a thank you from them. This place have to get better courteous people and not...

Disclaimer: I'm from Chicago, we have over a dozen outstanding Mexican restaurants.

The good: large portions, surprisingly good (not great) taste, decent prices.

The bad: ordered 5 tacos and this took nearly half an hour, placed a second order (to go, for the next day's lunch) right when the tacos came out for a burrito and quesadilla, that came out within 5 minutes! Not sure what took so long on the tacos, perhaps it was the side of rice and they had to wait on a fresh batch.

As mentioned above, taste was good, nothing special whatsoever, and the quesadilla was 40% tortilla, 40% chicken, and 20% cheese. Burrito was rather bland, but the size of a mini-football.

They didn't have horchata, that was a little disappointing.

The restaurant's interior is rather rundown and has a dirty/dingy vibe to it.

All-in-all, this is nothing special, but will suffice for Mexican...
