Cakes by Karen helped me out when I was in a jam in October. They were able to make a wonderful cake for me, last minute, because the original bakery I ordered my husbandâs birthday cake from did a terrible job. Visually the cake came out so well and tasted so good that we ordered two more cakes - one for my father-in-laws birthday and one for our anniversary (both in November). And now weâre back to get a cake for Christmas. Weâve always kept it relatively simple with a three layer white or chocolate cake with raspberry filling - Itâs simply but wonderfully delicious. I would definitely recommend this bakery and Iâve only had one had issue related to the cake shifting so be very explicit when explaining how we want our cake and make sure the cake base is thick to avoid this issue. In fact, the owner remembers us and the fact weâve bought a cake every month for 4 months in a row, so weâve been treated very well here. Weâre originally from NYC, born and raised, these cakes taste like home to us which is probably why weâre so particular about them.
Pro Tip: If you want multiple layers make sure to tell them you want the bottom cake layer to be THICK. We didnât tell them that and our Christmas cake slide off itâs base and unfortunately this is the second time itâs happened. Luckily our family only really cares about how it tastes, but itâs...
Read moreI had order a cake from this place for my uncles 40th birthday party about a week ago. When the party came around the cake was NOT how I wanted it at all. But the first issue was, the women I had talked to at this place said if I wanted to change the design to send an email with my order number and that they usually check their emails everyday. I submitted a new design by Monday-Tuesday and did not hear anything from them. Wednesday afternoon starts to roll around and I decided to call them & was on hold for 5 minutes just for the person to get to the computer & then he goes and reviews it & says that is this photo exactly how you want it and I said thatâs how I want the design but in my email I put I wanted the boarders and font to be this color which was dark blue and black. I thought my cake wouldâve came like how it I explained it in my email... but it came out how the computer design copy I attached to my email I sent to them. Paid $68 for only 1/4 sheet to look like a plain cake for my uncle that was hitting a milestone in his life. I wouldnât have cared if it looked plain like that, but the price shouldâve been changed! Very unreasonable. Donât even know what I was charged when I set the order for my total to come out to $68. Donât think Iâll be ordering a cake...
Read moreTucked away near the Northglenn Shopping Outlets is a tiny locally owned bakery that is worth visiting one day. A local legend, Karen has been making cakes for my family & I for over 3 generations! She is the best of the best!!
So yes, when you read other reviews about the owner just know, she's been doing this for a really long time and has been doing this for longer than I've been alive (sorry Karen to date you here) but truly, you know what you're talking about. Also, her prices haven't changed much since I've been a kid and have stayed consistent for decades even as inflation has been on the rise.
I deeply admire & respect what she has accomplished here and will continue to support her local business. She has always been patient & kind to my mom, myself and my daughter. Her fillings, frostings & ingredients are also not made from any nasty chemicals, so your cake will remain moist & flavorful and will last. And she also personally trains all of her bakers diligently & can whip together a last minute cake in no time!
Seriously, when you have time just go in and try one of her famous brownies, cookies or cupcakes, that are freshly baked and on display and see...
