I was just in the O’Fallon, MO store and had a truly terrible and traumatic experience- both for me and my daughter. One of the employees began criticizing me publicly and extremely loud because he didn’t like my parenting style with my children. He made it a point to contradict what I was saying to my kids directly to them and in front of the entire store. I normally would have just let it go and gone about my day, but while in the dressing room, he and another employee were again publicly talking about my kids and I, and I heard them clear as day. When I came out of the dressing room he proceeded to publicly berate me and tell me how bad of a parent I am because he didn’t like my parenting style. He then proceeded to yell at me and tell me I’d better “watch my mouth” several times. There were at least 15 other shoppers nearby to witness it- one of them being my little girl. I asked him to get his manager, and shortly after Ashleigh came to speak with me shortly after. I asked her why she did not intervene when he was clearly and publicly berating a customer- and for so long. She seemed immediately defensive, and mentioned that she was coming from the stock room in the back (he did not have time to get her so I’m not sure how she was alerted to the situation). She asked him to walk away several times, but as he did, he kept walking back towards me, yelling, threatening me, getting in my face, and telling me I’d better “watch my mouth,” and all of this in front of my child.
He also continued to tell me that his 21 year old child “turned out perfect” and that I should be a better parent like him.
I do feel like Ashleigh did a good job listening when she came and diffusing the situation, but it was 5 minutes into the ordeal- which is entirely too long for a situation that should have never happened in the first place. She did end up getting Gretta involved, another manager who took me back to the offices and had Cory apologize. Although he clearly did not mean it, I appreciated her efforts. She informed me that he was just training there, but as a patron, respectfully, I do not care. An employee is an employee. And both he and the employee who was speaking with him in the first place should have conducted themselves more professionally.
I doubt that I will be back to this location as it was also traumatic to my child who has repeatedly said since we left that she was and still is scared. She was practically in tears when we left and he scared her enough that she was emotionally dysregulated all the way home.
While I do not blame the managers entirely, I am very frustrated with my experience today and I will be sharing my experience publicly in hopes that someone else does not have to experience what my...
Read moreThe clothing options change seasonally, leaving a wide selection for the next season. The clothes come in about a month or two before they are needed for the season. If you go last minute shopping mid-season, there will not be a big selection. The store also gets its products based on the truck shipment. If it isn't in the store, they don't have it. They don't hide products in the back and don't have the staff to check for you. There are self-service fitting rooms that are open when the back ones are not, and they differ in size. One is relatively small, and the other is pretty decent in size. The back fitting room follows a schedule, and they don't have the staff to always open them. They try to keep the store organized and clean, but as I said, they are understaffed, which means only one or two people are left organizing and cleaning the floor for the entire day. The bathrooms are locked, so you do need to ask an employee to open it for you. You can talk to the cashier up front, and they will call someone for you, or you can wander around looking for employees except for the stockroom. No customers are allowed in the stockroom, and if there are people back there, they are working on restocking the merchandise...
Read moreRude staff... I wonder into Ross every 6 months or so to see if I can find anything. The stores are all set up similar to a resale shop but prices are higher because it is all new. I actually found a couple purses but when I went to check out found the staff to be extremely rude. Went to a register that was open and according to her name tag she was in management. While checking out she and the other cashier were talking loudly about how she was supposed to be closed. And how she had to ring us up because we just walked up to her register before she could put up the closed sign because she was busy putting away hangers. The conversation about how she didn't want to help us went on till I paid. As soon as I pulled my card from the machine the closed sign was slapped on the counter. They didn't have to be rude, if they had only asked I would have gladly moved my 3 items to another open register. Customer service matters, I can take my...
