DO NOT COME TO THIS ULTA!!! They DO NOT deserve your money! Recently, while out shopping with my father, we stopped by Ulta to browse fragrances. After walking around and smelling a few, I finally decided on a fragrance. However, an employee informed me that it was unavailable in-store and suggested I order it online. Given my limited time in town, I didn't find it necessary so we simply left and continued our afternoon.
After spending around 45 minutes in another store, to our complete shock, we find ourselves surrounded by 3 police officers upon leaving. We were totally caught off guard and even more so when the officers informed us that an Ulta employee reported that she SAW me steal perfumes. It was then I realized that I was racially profiled and wrongfully accused of theft. I was in disbelief throughout the entire ordeal. It was my first encounter with such blatant discrimination in retail and I refuse to let it go unnoticed. Out of all the customers in Ulta at the time, somehow my father and I were singled out for theft? Not to mention we were the ONLY black customers in the store at that time. I will NEVER return to this Ulta and I strongly discourage other black people from shopping there or you might have the police arbitrarily called on you as well.
I understand that theft is an issue in Ulta and it's one thing to watch and observe your customers, but it's another thing to confidently lie and make a claim that has no basis in reality. Even if the last 2,3,4 people who were actually caught stealing were black, you DO NOT have the liberty of treating every black patron like a suspect, falsely accusing them of theft based on a racist and fallacious whim! You don't make those calls without concrete proof and certainty.
While my father and I were shaken up, we still tried to enjoy the rest of the day given I only had that day to spend with him. I don't know what sort of mental gymnastics the employee performed to come to the conclusion that she did, but it was very clear that she had no regard for truth or consequences. The employee did not consider how her careless and arguably malicious act could impact the person on the other end of it. And Ulta needs to hold her accountable to the fullest extent.
EDIT: I will be escalating this further because based on a number of other reviews, there unfortunately appears to be a trend in the poor treatment of black women who patronize this specific Ulta. Management clearly isn't serious about addressing these concerns, but I...
Read moreNovember 21, 2023 at approximately 12 o’clock I entered the ulta store location in Oakbrook, Illinois. I was in the store for approximately 20 minutes and everywhere I went in the store had two employees follow me on both sides of the aisle. This went on while I had two phone calls, one was on FaceTime, and the person on the other end of the phone also noticed that I was being followed in the store, I was doing my shopping just like anyone else though apparently the color of my skin gave off the impression that I was there under malicious reason. I even asked an associate a question, I already knew the answer to just to give her something to do because they were literally just watching me and moving from aisle to aisle. when I got all of my things and went to the counter, I was met with an overwhelmingly persistent manager, who, despite my complaint with the store and how I was treated, insisted on signing me up for a credit card with the store. When she finally did respond, it was “oh I’m sorry that happened to you” that’s it. It was her only response. I’m pretty sure she was the one who had her employers follow me because she was the first person I saw at the door she didn’t even greet me. I greeted her, and as a person of a different racial background walked in her approach to them, was completely different than her approach to mine. The customer service bar for people who look like me, who come in and shop just like everyone else, is set in hell. Im actually upset I continued with the transaction but at least I have proof of my transaction and who it was with so when I escalate this further, there wont be...
Read moreWhere to start...I really don't like writing Google reviews but when the management of a company doesn't treat customers well, that's when I decide to write on this forum. I went to the Oakbrook Ulta to get a haircut. My appointment was with Meagan the one with the loud belly laugh. I used Meagan in the past and was happy with her hair color work. I had been through the haircut gauntlet the past few months receiving a bad haircut from Great Clips and Mario Tricocci, so Meagan was my next choice. I explained my past experiences, maybe that was a mistake. She cut my hair exactly like the last salon. Meagan new she did something wrong so she compt my haircut. Full admission. The layering is not the same on each side still. She enhance the difference. After pointing out her cutting results she was getting very upset. So I ended the haircut. Im not sure what is going on out there. I called to the Ulta manager to have another stylist look at the cut. She made the appointment and was told my business was not welcome in the future. Okay. Don't go this Ulta if your hair is cut wrong from Mario Tricocci or any other salon. Nightmare +++ And Meagan acts like a Hollywood Diva stylist, messing up a 67 year old's hair. Maybe she doesn't like elderly people. When she was washing the color out of my hair she sweezed my neck harder than a massage. An attempt to massage I thought but when she did it again I knew she meant to cause pain. I didn't bother to mention this incident to the manager when she checked me out and charged $100.00 for a hair color. Unbelievable right? I took a picture...
