This is my first review and unfortunately not a good one, because it was too much for one evening. My family came to this restaurant for the first time and had a very bad experience also for the first time in 20 years. It all started with a lie over the phone when I called them to reserve a table for my daughter's birthday. We wanted to find a place where we could bring a bottle of liquor and pay an opening fee at the restaurant. The lady I spoke to over the phone said yes, we could do that, but she put me on hold to confirm that information. When she returned to me she said: yes, any bottle (not just wine!) is ok to bring with us and pay opening fee of $20. When we came on Sunday to celebrate, the manager (who looked mean from when he met us at a front desk when we came) said that it is an Illinois law that prohibits bringing your own bottle to any restaurant (later that evening I found out that the state of Illinois has no rules about BYOB) and that a person who told me over the phone that we could do that was "just a random person". (didn't know that random people could answer the phone at the restaurant!) Another big thing was when servants (who came to our private room every other minute just to look around) handled hot dishes to 6 and 7 years old kids into their bare hands!!! At the end, when we received a check, there was a $398 banquet fee!!! It appeared that our so called private room was not that private, because there were 3 empty tables that could be used for other people to be seated at! (although the restaurant was almost empty all the time we were there and now I understand why). They lowered that fee but still we paid some amount for it. Manager was the meanest person that we ever saw at any other restaurants. Unfortunately don't remember his name, but remember that a guy was wearing glasses. Service was slow. They ruined my daughter's birthday by ruining our mood for the whole evening. We hoped that party would be fun for all but we left mad and disappointed. This is not how you treat your customers. Never again we are going to go there and wouln't recomend it to anyone. Not the cheapest but the worst restaurant we've...
Read moreThe menu looked terrific. I ordered Sea Bass, my favorite fish, you can only get it in good restaurants. Unfortunately, this restaurant use a cheap version of the Sea Bass. For those people that don't know the difference, I advise you to check it out. There's a big difference in price and a big difference in taste. If you're a fish lover you would be able to tell the difference between these two. Chilean sea bass thick more like a steak and the cheaper version much smaller fish you can fry it whole or just get to filet out of it. The service in the restaurant was good, our waiter was very attentive and very pleasant. You could tell he was new, his knowledge about the dishes in the restaurant was not there yet, but that's understandable. I will definitely come back to try more dishes. For now only four stars because of the fish that I ordered, the quality for the price and the way it was served. Sea bass it's very delicate juicy and greasy fish, serving it over rice soaked in butter, without anything else that would balance the greasiness of the dish is not a good pairing. Of course the glass of wine will balance it out but that day I didn't have a desire for the wine and I was looking to balance my greasy fish with something else from the menu which I wasn't able to find. I've seen cheaper restaurant with better menu options, and I've tried more expensive restaurant with worst menu. There was one thing that I really loved from their menu, I think they call it chili cauliflower. I will have to give to cook five stars for that dish. That's why I am going to make another trip to this restaurant and I want to try different dishes: beef or chicken and see what happens. I hope the other dishes will be more balanced so I can correct the Stars rating. There's plenty of good restaurants in Oakbrook in order to get good ratings you really have to work harder to stay in front of...
Read moreFirst I would say that I have been to Devons more times than I care to mention and have never been disappointed however tonight was despicable. After a tough day at work I have been looking forward to my dinner. I would add it is my Birthday. As always I ordered the lobster bisque. In my opinion the best around. We also ordered oysters. My husband had the gumbo which was tasty. Then things went downhill fast. I ordered halibut and hubby ordered sea bass, they turned up before oysters. So I I told them cancel the oyster order which we were looking forward to but not after our main. Then I went to cut into the halibut, it was hard and dry. Obviously overcooked I sent it back and waited for the waitress to return. In the meantime the manager offered oysters on the house. I was hoping my husband could eat the oysters whilst I eat my dinner as he had almost finished and I still hadn’t received my meal. but unfortunately my meal did not turn up. I couldn’t get anyone’s attention and stood up to wave at the manager. I canceled my dinner I said just get check and leave. My birthday meal was a disaster. She offered to give me dinner to take home (nothing like fish warmed up at home!) gave us $25 card off our next meal and bought a slice of cake to take home (I wanted to leave it all on the table but husband took it) We had 3 cocktails that were delicious but to go out for a birthday celebration and leave close to tears is enough for me to never return. To make things worse my husband left a 20% tip out of habit!!! Pic of our bill...
