I had previously purchased 4 suits from this store. Came in to buy my fifth suit today. In front of me, several Orthodox Jewish clients were getting huge discounts. I told the seller that I was a repeat customer buying my 5th suit and asked if I could get a discount. The salesperson said yes and offered me a 10% discount. As he was ringing me up, the manager jumped out from behind the counter and said absolutely no discounts for me, despite the fact that the customers ahead of me all received a substantial discount. I guess they only care about customers if they are the same religion as the store owner. It is sad, pathetic, and beyond illegal. Perhaps, somebody will have the good sense to sue them for treating customers worse on the basis of religion. I will gladly go somewhere else and encourage all of you to do the same.
Now, they want to respond to my legitimate concerns by suggesting that I was never a client. PATHETIC! I know the owner. I know your tailor. They know me and would recognize me if I came in. It would have been better if you said that you will talk to your staff and make sure they treat everyone the same. But, this....just makes it seem like I am making it up and am not a real customer. If I had any doubts about coming back, your response seals the deal. I will...
Read moreI make it a routine practice to seldom leave reviews for places out of concern for privacy and how wonky the star system can be. However, I did feel it worthwhile to leave one for the Suit Depot. I don't often have occasion to dress up within my occupation so the world of suits and formal wear can be a bit elusive and daunting. I used the Detroit Reddit page to see if folks had recommendations for places and Suit Depot consistently popped up.
Ronnie who helped me out was like the Mr.Rogers of the formal wear neighborhood. Within a couple of measurements and questions he was able to provide a plethora of options and explain how each factored into a broader style or shape. I had it in my mind that the whole process was going to be a multi-hour affair when in all actuality the know-how and options available took 40 minutes. Having an in-house tailor also offered assurance about the fit and I was pleasantly surprised with the expected turn around given I needed to grab a suit on semi-short notice.
As a side note, I saw some papers on the tailor's desk that had a Cyrillic typeface. Being Ukrainian I was surprised to hear that Roman was of Russian descent, but we had a splendid conversation about the repetition of history, the pitfalls of human nature, and a bit of shared heritage.
All in all a...
Read moreI've been a customer of The Suit Depot since 2017. I'm 6'6" with a 34" inseam and a very long torso, which makes it hard to find clothes that fit me well. This is the only place I've found in the Metro Detroit area that carries suits that fit me. Even in extended sizes (tall and extra tall), they have a wide selection in any price range.
Beyond the range of clothes they offer, interactions with the staff is always a pleasure. Throughout these past eight years, Ronnie Townes, one of the fashion consultants, has helped me find suits, shirts, ties, shoes, and belts that I look and feel great in. Roman, the in-house tailor, makes every item look like it was cut to fit.
I'm typically clueless when it comes to fashion. These men don't just advise on what they think looks good; they take the time to explain the aesthetic principles behind their recommendations, so that I feel equipped to make better decisions even if I need to shop elsewhere. And if you tell them your budget when you come in, they'll help you find what you need within...
