Love this place. Grew up going to the Ojai Playhouse and am enjoying it even more with its newly renovated condition, staff and ownership. Small town experience at its best. Very nice, clean, very friendly and inviting and a great mix of movies and events including newer movies, great classics, and eclectic, unique and sometimes ‘Out there’ options which represent the traditional Ojai vibe really well. Popcorn is amazing and huge variety of concessions snacks, drinks, adult beverages and even a few food items. Jasmine at the counter is an absolute sweetheart. 100% smile and kindness even during the busiest of times. This team puts their hearts and souls into making this a fun, clean, safe and enjoyable opportunity for locals and visitors to unplug for a couple of hours and just be entertained an I couldn’t be more thankful to them. Anyone who spends time being upset about a few quirks or hiccups in The Playhouse’s evolving program as a new operation just really doesn’t get it. Take a deep breath, try to relax, let it all go and just enjoy the movie, snacks and great group of Ojai people and all of the effort they are investing in...
Read moreMy favorite cinema on earth.. The space itself is modern but with a cozy vibe that fits right into Ojai's laid-back atmosphere. The lobby is spacious, with clean, minimalist décor, and the staff is friendly and welcoming not to mention some of the wine selections are natural and popcorn is made with coconut oil (we love no seed oils) that is delicious making you feel right at home.
The theater features state-of-the-art sound and projection systems, the owner David made this his passion project to offer a truly overwhelming experience ! For what he has given the community that it’s missed for so many years!! Not to mention that everything that’s being shown are Oscar noms and movies of quality, not blockbuster bu$&shit That you would have to go to Ventura to see. Grab a beer see an amazing...
Read moreA unique and tasteful theater with beautiful aesthetics that shows masterful flicks like Miyazaki's Howl's Moving Castle (it's the 20th anniversary this year) and The Truman Show.
Bathrooms and theater interior were exceptionally clean. Blue lights on the ceiling in theater and in bathroom hall set a cool vibe. Eclectic snacks and drinks, I had a delicious Om Kombucha. Popcorn is good! There is also a soda fountain and variety for food from pizza and grilled cheese to big pretzels.
The owner with the circle shades (I presume) was friendly to me and even let me charge my phone. If you haven't been, check their website for affordable movie showings....
