Five Below — Local services in Old Saybrook

I went to this Five Below yesterday with a friend after school, and we were so disappointed. We walked in after school and shopped for about 20 minutes before I had to use the restroom. Once I walked out, my friend went in to throw out a wrapper she had from earlier on the day, and we went on with our shopping. That's when I heard two workers talking behind me saying "Go check that bathroom, I don't trust those kids." We kept shopping and ended up in an isle. That's when we were approached by three other workers, and one said "Kids, for future reference, no backpacks in here." We felt weird, but at this point our friend walked in and offered to watch them outside. I went to checkout while my friend stayed in the isle, with the three employees, who could've been doing their job, were still watching a 13 year old child like a hawk. I headed outside after I finished, and my friend came up to me and goes "They were talking bad about you." I asked what they said and she goes "I've worked at so many stores, and I always see kids walk in with backpacks empty and leave with them full, I never want to see those kids here again, and I know what that boy was doing." AWFUL STORE! DO NOT GO HERE! I went into the store right after I was done with school and I was walking with my friend with our backpacks. We get into the store and we were liking it so far until my friend went to the bathroom and when he came out a worker went in to “check it out” we were then followed around the whole store until a worker stopped us and said “hey guys just for the future no more backpacks in here” we obviously said ok and moved on we have another friend who was leaving the store so they took our bags and carried on. The workers still followed us until my other friend over heard them saying they were watching us because we were stealing and we had backpacks to fill stuff up. My friend felt uncomfortable and left and while I was checking out I heard two workers say “yeah we told them no more backpacks we see kids coming here with empty backpacks and leaving with them full”. I was extremely upset for the workers to think we were stealing because we had backpacks. We just got out of school and they were accusing us of having empty backs and leaving with them full. I have never stolen from a store!...

Very rude staff, I just wanted to ask a quick question as it was my daughters birthday and I needed to know where to get balloons blown up at since they were about to leave for the night and they didn’t even have to decency to answer me. They tried shooing me away as if I was some stray because they thought I was trying to give them more work to do … as if they already have a hard job stocking shelves and ringing people out. Mouthing “were closed go away” over and over again isn’t how you treat people and it isn’t a good look for business. Seriously I didn’t even have my phone on me and if it were even more of an emergency situation they would have stood back to watch you burn. Geeze how rude can a person be. Terrible customer service. Talking through the door to help a girl isn’t a requirement but neither is being a kind person and yet it gets you far in life; so please try it out sometime. .. no scratch that. Try it...
