I was very dissatisfied by Joan and her professionalism. I had multiple issues with her and my dress.
The fit. It was extremely tight. So tight where I had to wear two different shape wear. We told her it was too tight and to take it make out some and she did not. It fit fine before.
The “bustle” if you could call it that. At the original consultation I was told she would add buttons and little hooks. That is not what she did. She did just ribbons that we were supposed to tie together. She also without my permission added lace to the back of my dress. My dress has no lace whatsoever on it. And we had to tell her multiple times to remove it. And the bustling broke before I even made it down the aisle to I didn’t even get to use it.
Her attitude. She was extremely passive aggressive to both me and my mom. When we voiced concerns at the first fitting as she was marking my dress she kept saying how she likes working with nice people. She also told me I needed to be flexible about my dress when I didn’t like the lace. And when we asked for the tip back that she required up front, she while processing it just kept saying “god knows my heart”. And while working on my bustle she just kept saying under her breath that she’s never doing a dress like mine again.
Stains. She left multiple blue marks on my dress. That she said she would make sure she would take off. So on my wedding day my bridesmaid has to sit with some water to remove them. She also got what looked like a chocolate stain on the back that she never fully removed. She’s lucky it was noticeable to other people but me.
Overall I was very disappointed with her. I thought I could trust her cause she has good reviews.
Edit/ to her response. My mom did the talking towards the end because I was getting married that week. You knew that and still chose to be rude to my mother and I. DO NOT GO TO THIS WOMAN. She’s rude and unkind to plus...
Read moreSo it took me a minute to write this because I wasn’t sure because I don’t like doing reviews on people especially black owned businesses but I took my wedding dress to her three or four months before my wedding and she told me she would have it ready May 16 I only asked her to do the sleeves which she charged me $360 for and at that time I knew something wasn’t right, but I still proceeded to trust her my wedding was May 31. I want to go check on my dress a couple days before the 16th i tried on my dress again to make sure the measurements was right and my measurements was so off and she proceeded to tell me I lost too much weight and made me pay additional $50 to remeasure me when in fact, the first time she measured me, she didn’t measure me right she kept using safety pins I asked her nicely if she was sure she would be able to have my dress ready before my wedding. She told me yes she would and as any bride, I was so overwhelmed not knowing if my dress is going to be fixed on time had she told me she wouldn’t be able to do it. My dress would have been ready months before my wedding.I left her shop only to Get a phone call from her saying she won’t be able to finish it. She have so many people to do and she’s a little Overworked and told me I can come get my dress, which I proceeded to get my dress took it to someone else and she had my dress ready within a day and measurements was perfect and she only charged me $40 to do The exact job I asked her to do and at this point, I knew she was just overcharging me for nothing she’s a nice lady, but she definitely try to over prices for things that are not that much work and I definitely think she overbooked herself and complain about not having enough time to do things Just my experience with her I will never go back to her, but I think definitely be cautious when...
Read moreMy experience Seemed perfect at first.... Joan was kind and very attentive. I brought in my wedding dress for alterations. When I bought the dress it was a size 4. It fit me almost perfectly at the time that I bought it. I became very ill and had to be on steroids for a few months, which in turn, made me gain weight. I was fitted for the dress three different times. on my second visit she asked me if I was gaining weight. I told her yes, I am on steroids and there is nothing I can do about my weight. She insisted that I start taking water pills because she could only take out the dress so much. there was plenty of room in the dress. And on my wedding day my dress did not fit. I had to leave it open in the back just so I could wear it. Luckily no one noticed, but I knew! Further investigation proved that she actually never worked on my dress and it was the same size when I dropped it off to her the first time. She insisted that I diet and take water pills so I could fit into my dress. I ended up re-taking my wedding photos a year after my wedding. I was able to fit in my dress for the first time since I bought it. The pictures came out amazing but I am still traumatized at the fact that my most special day was ruined because my dress did not fit. The only weight I gained was about 15 to 18 pounds. I think that she was overwhelmed and did not want to admit, being since it was in the heart of high school proms. But I should have been first priority. I still love Joan but wished she would have said she could not handle my alterations...
