I am very saddened to write about this . First of all , I do not condone anyone doing their job however profiling is completely unacceptable. This incident happened 11/01/2024 at around 2:30ish-3pm . I will write a personal statement to corporate and will call whoever is responsible for this behavior . An employee was taking videos of us as we were shopping. Every time we come here we are followed . I notice the same ones doing the same behavior as in following us which is normal that’s fine follow us all you want you will know we do not steal. However Some manager with a blonde hair kind of walks feminine followed us a lot and also took videos and pictures of us with his gold phone . My husband is a veteran and I have PTSD from past traumas and it appalling to me the way the employees treat us . We say thank you , no smiles , no greeting is like they get mad that we are there we are Hispanics . Especially when I’m with my son. I’ve even taken the measure to not bring in my stroller or diaper bags . We are hard working Americans and EVERY TIME we come they scan for us like if we are not gonna scan OUR THINGS . I heard the older lady say she can’t wait till we leave and was looking at us wrong as I asked if she scanned the diapers. I had enough of this and thought if anyone is Hispanic or black , they get treated the same way because a couple of white people next to us , they didn’t get their stuff scanned and Every time we are at checkout is like a line of managers and people looking at us in the front when I’m just trying to get out of there , pay for our stuff and eat a hotdog. However there are some employees like the ones cooking or some guy at the checkout was extra nice and patient with us since we had to unfreeze our navy fed account to check out. But it makes me so nervous to shop here and it’s these man always following us. The crazy part is we come here to get the same thing every time . Follow us all you want you won’t find anything. Also to the manager that took the picture with his gold iPhone while looking at us in disgust, I’m sorry but shame on you. The sad part is they don’t care if we speak up , they make it look like if we are guilty for writing this but I’m sorry my husband didn’t fight for this country to be treated like a crook . Signed a future soldier . Shame on These Costco associates for profiling. And we will be back again , and again , and again every month for our regular things so tell homie to keep taking more pics and videos because he ain’t gonna find nothing. And if its because my husband has his bag with him , I saw 4 different dudes carrying their own man bag too is Florida, So again I ask , what is it so wrong that we’re doing? I cried the whole way back because I love coming here and the fact that I feel so hostile every time we come here and the fact that yall scan for me baffles me . Well just go to the cashier register next time. I left out of there with...
Read moreI became a Costco member on 4/30/2024 and cancelled my membership today 5/03/2024.
People should be aware that Costco employees who stand at the entrance are not trained properly how to handle a person with a disability and service dog.
Upon entering the store today I was asked by Staretta who was checking membership cards the following about my service dog;
Is your dog a service dog? I responded yes.
What service does she provide? I responded she let's me know when I need medication.
What kind of medication? I responded that she cannot ask that question.
She said my service animal did not look or act like a service dog and she needed to call a supervisor.
The supervisor came and allowed us into the store, but I decided to cancel my membership and leave.
Employees who are the face of the store, especially at the entrance to a Club like Costco need to be trained properly and not discriminate against people with disabilities. Fortunately, this type of training is completely covered with most companies, but with a "Club" where people can be denied entrance based on membership it may be overlooked and not properly trained.
In situations where it is not obvious that the dog is a service animal, staff may ask only two specific questions: (1) is the dog a service animal required because of a disability? and (2) what work or task has the dog been trained to perform?
Be reminded that ‘service dog law’ is a federal law that protects my rights.
Under Florida law and the federal Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), people with disabilities may bring their service animals to all "public accommodations," such as restaurants, museums, hotels, and stores. These laws also require those who operate transportation services to allow...
Read moreStopped by to grab a slice of pizza on my way home from work and ended up getting a migraine to go along with my slice. As I entered the front door I noticed only certain people were getting stopped to check for membership. Of course I was one of the ones that got stopped. The gentleman at the door was nice enough and let me in and directed me towards the food court as well as where to purchase membership since I didn't have my own yet, and my aunt who I usually come with wasn't around. As there was a line, I went to the food court first to buy a pizza and grab membership while I wait on it to be cooked. I put my order in the kiosk and an associate rushed over and cancelled my order from the kiosk and said I needed to do membership first. I have never seen membership be checked at the kiosk and I've ordered plenty of pizza's from this location. We had a bit of a back and forth as this seemed like a lot over a simple pizza. Thought maybe i'm making too much out of it, seems right to get the membership first....even though it seemed odd for them to come check only me about it to begin with. I quickly purchased a membership then came back to the food court to order the pizza and was still given pushback. Showed the associate my membership info in the costco app and was still told that I wasn't a member, despite the payment confirmation, email confirmation from costco stating I had membership and completed verification in the costco app. I watched a dozen or more people go to the same kiosk and the same few associated didn't seem to feel the need to check anyone else's membership. It seemed to me that certain people were not welcome to become members, regardless of buying the membership. The pizza is pretty good, not worth the...
