I left a large original artwork (30"x15") to get professionally framed with their framing department. When i picked it up, not only were the dimensions incorrect from what I specifically requested, but there were large pieces of lint, fabric fibers, and smudges beneath the glass. It was honestly shocking to see because I spent over $500 on it and this was how it was presented. Ed, who is very knowledgeable and took a lot of time to help correct the issues, said that they had a new person working on it who "lacked attention to detail." I was surprised to hear they had new, potentially inexperienced employees handling original artwork, especially if they weren't detail oriented. In fact it made me nervous considering I spent months of work on this art. They ended up having to redo the entire frame to correct the dimension issues, which I do appreciate because they had to get all new materials. I did not receive a voicemail to notify me when the redone framework was completed, I had to reach out and check the progress after a few weeks, and they let me know it had been completed. When I picked it up I saw the same exact smudges, lint, and fibers were still beneath the glass. I pointed this out to the employee and at first she said they were likely pencil marks. I said definitely not, I was very familiar with every pencil stroke on the paper. She took it back and had to lift the glass and was able to sufficiently remove the largest bits of debris. Is it perfect? No, but after 6 weeks I was just ready to get my drawing back. The employees were always very helpful/polite and I really appreciated Ed's eye for design (the only reason I give any stars really is the fact the staff was always friendly) but I did not walk away from this experience blown away by the job that was done. I could not recommend them for framing based on what I...
Read moreI ordered some prints online that I wanted to be stretched onto a frame just like canvas art.
Ed (who works there) suggested that we dry mount my prints as they didn't have as much excess material to stretch and fold around the frame, otherwise he would have needed to reduce the size of the print by making a smaller frame to ensure more material could wrap around the frame and secure in place.
I dropped off the artwork in the morning and just a few hours later he emailed me saying they were ready for pickup, finishing way quicker than expected.
I was on vacation and the artwork was for my family's holiday home, so after dropping off the art, myself and the family headed out to Tampa for the day and didn't make it back in time before the store closed.
The next 2 days we headed out early (before the store opened) as we travelled to St.Augustine and the Kennedy Space Center, we spent the entire day in each of these locations and again missed closing time.
Ed was very knowledgeable and accommodating (holding onto my prints for 3 days), I spoke to another 2 of his colleagues when browsing the store and they were also welcoming and helpful.
I finally made the pickup and the artwork was carefully wrapped, I got home and was delighted with the results.
I highly recommend and would definitely visit the...
Read moreI visited Sam Flax for the first time today. I have lived in Orlando for a few years now, and every single time I have passed by, I’ve made a note to check it out. Shortly after I moved, I experienced some health events that really limited what I could do, so I only just now got around to it. I haven’t been able to do a lot of art these past few years due to the state of my health, and I just recently decided to give art another shot. I was incredibly disappointed by how inaccessible the store was. The classes that are offered are only offered upstairs with no elevator, and two entire sections of clearance items and art books was impossible for me to get to due to the stairs. I kept bumping into displays and couldn’t even look at some of the items because of the lack of wheelchair mobility. The store was nice and some of the employees were friendly. Still, I felt very discouraged and disappointed. I’m sure I would fall in love with this place had I been able-bodied, but I am not. I came here looking for community and some new sketchbooks and left with nothing; after a half-hearted apology from an employee regarding the barriers to access, it was clear to me that I wasn’t welcome...
