Shin Jung is the pinnacle of korean barbecue in Orlando. There are lots of great places to get bulgogi in this area, but Shin Jung is a step above.
This was my first time going here since the fire and the refurbishment. Even prior to then Shin Jung was considered the best. Dare I say that they're better than I remember. The rice is sticky and perfectly cooked, by far the best at any korean restaurant I've been to.
We got beef bulgogi, kalbi, and spicy pork bulgogi (we had to request it spicy, and they only give you spicy pork if you let them cook it for you as opposed to on the table). All were delicious and top notch, perfectly marinated and high quality cuts of meat.
The sides are all good, the Kimchi is some of the best quality I've had. It was fresh, crunchy, and juicy. I do wish they had bean sprouts but I'm not too worked up with them not having it. I like the fermented fish too.
After we ate all of the meat we finished with iced Sujeonggwa (ginger cinnamon drink), which was delicious. This was my first time having it. A mellow sweet ginger flavor that finishes with a strong cinnamon flavor.
Our last course was getting some fresh beef dumplings in the world. I was expecting the usual average potstickers. What we got was out of this world. The lightly fried puff pastry like exterior wasn't oily or too thick. The meat inside was sweet, like marinated bulgogi. We ended up eating half of it and taking the rest home. If you eat at Shin Jung, do not miss out on these. They're perfect for the end of a meal to take some home.
The service here was excellent, the restaurant was spotless, and the interior looked shiny and new. Like a Phoenix this restaurant rose from the ashes and didn't perish like a dog, but instead came back stronger...
Read moreThese pictures are from our first visit, but what’s having me write this review is my third visit here! I want to shoutout Naya, our server, for literally going a step above and helping us find my boyfriend’s retainers that fell out of his pocket as we paid! He had it wrapped in paper so we thought it would be long gone but we still tried. We called but it was said to be not found. When we showed up back to search around the building and near our table, Naya literally just looked in the trash can behind the hostess counter and she found it! I know it’s not the most pleasant task to dig in the trash, but she went beyond her role for a customer! As someone who’s been in customer service for years (food, retail, etc), I truly appreciated it.
Now for service - I mean, I think I can speak for the past three times we’ve been here. No complaints and you’ll definitely be taken care of! The SERVERS are the backbone and why I will continue coming! :) For a lot of the servers to come to the hostess desk and show concern and care, I can tell they have a pure hearted team!
Food: Kimchi stew is the best in Orlando! We only order it from here ever since the restaurant reopened. Our favorite meat to order is the Kalbi short rib. Tender and full of flavor! The side dishes vary each visit but have all been great! My favorite has been the spicy cucumber kimchi. The salad before the meal is refreshing.
Restaurant: Ambiance is relaxing and inviting. I love the patio backdrop! Even though the music inside sometimes can’t be heard because of the food cooking and conversations, I can at least watch revolving kpop videos on the TV!
Thanks, Naya, for making our night! (PS she deserves a raise...
Read moreI recently moved down to Orlando and being Korean myself and having lived in places with lots of Koreans and Korean restaurants, I wasn't expecting much from a Korean restaurant in Orlando. My coworkers took me to Shin Jung as my first stop and I was VERY disappointed even for someone who wasn't expecting much. We ordered the Kalbi, Bulggogi, and Pork (Sam gyup sal) bbq and all 3 tasted horrible. The Kalbi was too rough, Bulgoggi was not seasoned well and the Sam Gyup Sal was given to us on the same grill as the rest instead of on a pan grill. Basic korean bbq is that pork should be prepared on a pan unless it is pork ribs. The side dishes were decent but the jjigae we ordered was bland. As for the service, the waitress would always come back so late that all our meat would get burnt. I eventually had to just take the reigns and start filpping the meat by myself so that we'd have some meat left to actually eat considering our portions were really small too.Wanting to be respectful I told my coworkers who took me to Shin Jung that I enjoyed the food but two weeks later I went to Seoul Garden in Maitland with my girlfriend and had a real Korean restaurant experience. Excellent food, portions, and service. A few weeks later we went to Korea House in Longwood and even they had better service and food.Bottom line. Coming from a Korean guy who has eaten authentic Korean food all over the world including the mother country, there are WAY better Korean restaurants in Orlando than Shin Jung. I just can't believe some moron recommended this place to my co workers in...
