I'm a little bummed out by this experience. I hadn't gotten anything from this popcorn shop in a few years so I was excited to give it another go.
First, I walked in and was greeted by this super kind gentleman. I didn't catch his name, he was older (I am assuming he is maybe the owner), and he was just the happiest man alive, which was nice and refreshing. I felt a little awkward at first, I felt like I wasn't given the chance to look around the store (granted there's not a whole lot to look at - the store looks full until you realize that most of the shelves are filled with empty popcorn buckets). The gentleman showed me the menu of flavors and showed me the example sizes, so next I had to browse the menu to decide what I wanted. Which was, again, an awkward experience because he was kind of just looming over me watching me browse the menu thinking about what I wanted to order. Finally, I decided on the "Windy City" mix and the "Spicy Buffalo".
Awkward atmosphere aside, I think I can describe this store with one good word: underwhelming.
I think the prices are too high for not only the proportions, but also the quality of popcorn you are getting. I got one medium and one small bag and paid $19.73, but the bags are kind of small so you aren't really getting a lot of bang for you buck especially considering the quality.
I saw some reviews saying that they were told the popcorn was made fresh daily, but it didn't taste like it. I don't believe this popcorn is made fresh in the slightest. There was a ton of popcorn sitting behind the counter in these big buckets. I personally drive by this store everyday if not multiple times a day due to my job, and I almost never see anyone here, so I can't imagine this business is "booming" so even if they did make the popcorn fresh daily, I think it would be a waste of money for them.
Another big issue I had in relation to the atmosphere is the fact that this popcorn shop does not even smell like popcorn. Which also leads me to believe there is a lack of freshness. If I walk into a candle shop, I wanna smell candles. If I walk into a candy store, I wanna smell candy. If I walk into a popcorn shop, I wanna smell popcorn.
All-in-all, I would say this store is unfortunately mediocre at best. I think it has tons of potential and in a community like Oswego, where there are tons of families and children, I think they could really market towards that and increase their business. Their popcorn is not fresh, the flavors are fine, not great but fine, but you can tell that it has been sitting, my cheddar popcorn was soft. I think they could really do a lot with this place to make it great, but as it is right now, it's not and I don't know that I...

Read moreMy wife and I visited the Popcorn Store for the first time yesterday and we were surprised by the vast amount of flavors. They just have so many ranging from very spicy to sweet and we just didn't know what to try. They were very friendly and we sampled a few of the flavors and they tasted amazing! Ultimately we went with the baked potato, jalapeno cheddar and ranch flavors. We loved all three and can't wait to go back and try the other flavors. The popcorn was fresh and crunchy and quite frankly delicious and very reasonably priced. They also have a good selection of craft sodas and candy. You have to visit them! This is definitely place I will...
