I really wanted to like this restaurant, but by the end of dinner I was ready to leave.
When we arrived the place was pretty full, which is what you want to see! The decor in the restaurant is fantastic, it has a very nice aesthetic. Clean, modern, sleek. They have a bar with two people making sushi and you can see high quality sushi fish through the glass.
I was expecting a wait. When we went up to the desk the host really waffled on timing and was unwilling to give us a guess as to when we might get a table. The bar seating however was visibly open and there were only two of us. I asked about the bar and he said we could sit immediately. It struck me as odd he hadn't offered it as an option when deciding on how long of a wait it would be.
We sat at the bar and my immediate thought was, "These chairs are too short." My elbows were below the dining surface which makes it very hard to not elbow your dinner partner when eating. On a plus side though, when I was eating my Ramen I only needed to lean over and my face was practically in the bowl, so maybe it was intentional? Looking at the menu is wasn't sure if i was going cross-eyed as the prices (particularly at the bottom of the Maki column) don't seem to line up properly with the offerings on the left.
We ordered a Shrimp Tempura Maki, Chicken Ramen, and Teriyaki Shrimp which came with soup and salad. When the soup was delivered it came with a spoon in the bowl, but we were not provided chopsticks or napkins until requesting them (not until our entrees were served). The side soup had a good onion flavor. The side salad ginger dressing was also what you'd expect.
The Shrimp Tempura Maki was 5-piece and was very underwhelming. I personally do not think it was worth $8.95 (I'll keep driving the extra 3 minutes to Sushi Plus and have a mini truck deliver my dinner). The soy sauce dish was also very odd choice, deep and large instead of small and shallow. Seems like a good way to encourage diners to waste soy sauce.
The Chicken Ramen looked tasty and the chicken was actually well cooked. Unfortunately, it was the best part of the Ramen when the broth should be the star. The broth was very underseasoned lacking salt and any umami flavor. This contributed to the noodles being underwhelming as they were not carrying any flavor. I really wish the soft boiled egg had been pickled or seasoned, but it was plain and without flavorful broth it was a boring addition. They were light on the corn, which is my preference so I was not upset my that. Overall though, I do not recommend the Ramen.
The Teriyaki Shrimp came on a platter with a mound of rice, grilled onions and zucchini, and maybe yum yum sauce. The additional sauce was a bit baffling to me as the Shrimp was already well covered in the Teriyaki sauce. I ended up not using the second sauce. The onions and zucchini were the best thing on the plate. The Shrimp was extremely overcooked and had turned rubbery which was off-putting. The Teriyaki Sauce itself was good and the rice was cooked appropriately. It would have been nice if there was something pickled on the plate.
Overall, dinner was disappointing. If you're going to eat here I would stick to the sushi and not venture too far. But even then, if you're getting a specialty roll you'd better like...
Read moreI got the takeout so I can’t speak to service too much everyone was kind and friendly. Great spot super cute they definitely put a lot into it. Kind of a let down with their sushi being ostensibly mid. I was expecting a different quality to the rolls considering the prices. Their Hawaiian roll is basic with canned pineapple and a “white sauce” couldn’t tell what it was, with salmon and crab. Salmon avocado roll was solid pretty basic of course - then their dynamite roll was just a California roll fried, somewhat soggy and a tiny piece of shrimp on top. The saddest part was the ginger :( a hot pink ginger usually means it’s been artificially dyed (not always a bad thing) but it had almost no flavor either. Which is something I’ve NEVER seen with ginger so idk if it was just sitting around a long time but it made it difficult to include in the rolls. For spending $40 I was expecting a bit of an...
Read moreJust tried this newly opened Nori Sushi place, and it totally blew me away! Amazing flavors and super friendly service!
🍣 Their sushi rolls are fresh and perfectly balanced. We ordered the nori roll and volcano roll, my bestie had the rainbow Maki. The salmon were melt-in-your-mouth delicious, with just the right amount of sauce. The presentation is also Instagram-worthy.
💖 The staff was so warm and welcoming, took time to explain the menu, and checked in to make sure everything was to our liking.
✨Love the modern Japanese style decoration. It is new andclean. The gentle pure background music brings a cozy vibe.
As a sushi lover, this place is definitely going on my favorites list....
