Variety — Local services in Pacific Grove

When I lived in Monterey, I often wandered through the shops in Pacific Grove and always made a point to stop by Variety. I loved seeing what new products they had—while not everything changes with each season or holiday, the store does a wonderful job updating its themes and displays.

What makes Variety especially unique is that it features products from multiple vendors, so you really do get a true variety of items. Toward the back you’ll find toys, clothes, and accessories, while the front of the shop has home décor and fun trinkets.

The owner is incredibly kind and welcoming—she greets you as soon as you walk in and is always happy to answer questions. After learning about her history in Pacific Grove, it makes shopping here feel even more meaningful, since you’re directly supporting local businesses.

Over time, I’ve picked up soaps and decorations for my grandmother, beanie babies and VHS tapes for my siblings, and wall décor and hats for my mom and aunt. Every visit feels like a little treasure hunt. Next time I’m back in Pacific Grove, I’ll definitely stop by again to see what new...

Was walking around PG and walked into this store, I greeted the owner with hello and just a rude stare from here. My friends and I walk to the back where there's kids toys and comics but there's another little room with jewelry and stuff like that. We are just laughing and looking around when she comes up to us unprovoked and says "this is not a playground" when we were just looking around and laughing at our own jokes not directed at her and anything in her store in any way. She then stayed behind us the whole time which made all three of us uncomfortable and feel unwelcome when all the other stores around the area are way nicer and welcoming. Went in looking for anything for my apartment and was greeted with a very unwelcoming lady. Blasting a show on her phone. I found a piece that I was very interested in buying and was met with a very snarky comment. From then forward I was followed around the store before leaving. As I was leaving I was met the same lady saying “have a good day” in an extremely condescending tone, putting both her hands in the air. I would not recommend shopping there and I will not...
