I find Peppers to be a bipolar restaurant experience. The first time I went there I got a smoked gouda quesadilla and it was fantastic. I also got an enchilada and burrito combo. The rice was a bit bland for Spanish rice but the combo was very good. I go a second time and the food was mediocre at best. I ordered the exact same thing the second time and all the items were consistently worse than the previous time. The quesadilla that was cheesy and decadent, was a massive pile of grilled onions with the cheese very sparingly used. I decided to give them another try assuming the cook was different, or just having a bad night. I had another try at the same order and it was great again. So being a creature of habit when I order food. I try a 4th time to order the same meal. Must have been the wrong day to go, because the food was not great. I have ordered to go most of the times I have ordered food at Peppers. The last time I tried to order food. The person answering the phone told me we were very busy today and we are not taking any to go orders. I just tried to order food again today and was told once again "we are so busy, we are not taking ti go orders". Why advertise that you have take out, but not sell it when you are busy? I guess I need to schedule my meal around when Peppers is not too busy to cook food. Anyway good luck to all the patrons of Peppers that you happen to go on...

We have been here multiple times and have loved the food but the service we had here on Thursday night was UNACCEPTABLE. We brought multiple people with us to show them our favorite Mexican restaurant in the area and sat on the patio. One person arrived late and put their order in 10 minutes after all of us did. When our food was brought out much later (I get it it's busy we were okay with that) one person at the table did not get there food for at least 10 mins if not longer than the rest of us. The person who was 10 minutes late to putting in their order waited OVER AN HOUR to get their food finally in a to go box because all of us had already left the restaurant because we were long done with our meal. Multiple people contacted our server and any wait staff we could find during this hour and kept getting told we are waiting on the kitchen, their order got buried (clearly forgotten about). This person didn't even want their meal anymore and wanted to leave but we already paid for their meal so they waited to get it. I called the manager next day on Friday she was supposed to call me back at 4pm never did. It is now Sunday and I still have not heard back. I will NEVER come here again and tell anyone to go to this restaurant. The service...

Disappointed. I recently visited Peppers, a Mexican restaurant that I used to enjoy, and I have to say that I was extremely disappointed. The food was incredibly bland and tasted like it had been sitting around for days. It was clear that the quality of the restaurant had declined significantly since my last visit.

To make matters worse, the menu prices did not match the charges on my bill. I was shocked at how much I ended up paying for such low-quality food. The customer service was also severely lacking, with the staff seeming uninterested in our dining experience.

The long wait for our food only added to our disappointment. When it finally arrived, it was clear that the kitchen had not put any effort into seasoning it. The portions were small and disappointing, making me feel like I had wasted my money on a meal that was on par with what I could have gotten at a chain restaurant like Applebee's.

Overall, I would not recommend Peppers to anyone looking for a good Mexican dining experience. The food is lackluster, the service is poor, and the prices are unjustified. Save your money and go somewhere else. They are living on their past fame, They are way past their prime and...

Genuine & Authentic - and that applies to the food and the wait staff. This is my 2nd visit to the Monterey area in 3 weeks, and all I’ve done in between was talk about Peppers! Juan was our waiter both times - 1st time by chance, 2nd time by request. Since most fantastic restaurants aren’t self-serve, the experience I have with my wait staff can make or break my dining experience, regardless of how fantastic the food is. Juan was genuinely friendly. He made it feel as if you were dining at his house. Juan made Peppers perfect. -Speaking of perfection - the food was fantastic. It was nice to see tourists and locals all enjoying the incredible food here. Juan had suggested some off menu tacos, when I told him I used to perform in Mexico - Tacos al Carbon. Simple grilled, uber tender strips of marinated beef served with tortillas, rice, whole beans, salsa. Like Pavlov’s dog I’m drooling typing this. This tasted like my memories. The margaritas from their full bar knocked it out of the park for me. Chips come to the table thin, fresh and warm. Red and green salsas are yum. -I highly recommend Peppers. It’s worth the short drive if staying Monterey.

One of the best authentic Mexicali restaurants in Monterey! The service was excellent (Juan) was super friendly, helpful, checked on us at the right times. Food came out fast, hot and soooo Yummy! My go to order is the two item combo with a chicken taco and a beef enchilada. The fluffy crispy taco shell is very delicious and the freshest ingredients of Lettuce tomato cheese balance it out. Did I mention how fresh everything is? Also the chips were really good and they give you a red and green salsa that was also delicious Peppers has a really expensive tequila bar selection my wife had the blood orange margarita which was really great and I had the ultimate margarita which is pretty fantastic You don’t get the view like El Torritos. But it’s very charming place, fun, Excellent service and food One of my top choices every time I’m in Monterey / Pacific Grove

They brought me a Cadillac margarita with the ice in w separate glass, and for the first time ever I actually tasted the tequila in the Cadillac margarita. It has me buzzing immediately. It was so good, but I simply couldn't order a 2nd one because I didn't have a designated driver...yep, it was that good.😊 And both the Chile Relleno and burrito in the combo were outstanding, great portion sizes for the price. Servers were attentive and checked with me regularly, and this is the best time to get a table and some attention, just before the dinner rush. Peppers is a hidden gem I've been coming to for several years now, it is a must if you're visiting the Monterey Peninsula and are yearning for quality Mexican food and drinks. You will NOT be disappointed -- they are outstanding. Can't wait to come back...
