My personal trainer was temporarily moved to this location from Northpark when they closed suddenly, so I had the opportunity to go to this gym 2 to 3 days a week for a few months. The layout and a few machines were slightly different from the Sprague, Cass, and Northpark locations I was used to. The front desk manager and kid's club manager Troy Berge, was very accommodating with my request to allow his kid's club employee to come in 5 minutes earlier on the 2 days I had prescheduled personal training that started the minute their kid's club opened in the afternoon for later daytime hours. This was very helpful knowing I didn't have to reschedule my personal training time with my trainer to another time slot that may have been more inconvenient for me due to them opening 30 minutes later than most other locations do in my area as well as the gym we trained at before they closed.
The kid's club employee, Sidney McGruder, was very willing to come in weekly every Monday and Wednesday 5 minutes early before kid's club was scheduled to open to accommodate this transition for me. I was very grateful they were willing to do this for me! It made the transition much less stressful on me not having to worry about it running into my personal training time slot or having to switch time slots with my trainer.
James Jones is also awesome! He always talked to me and equally talked to my son! He made him feel just as special as me, the member of the gym. Mike Cardinale, district manager, previously of Northpark before Tara Plaza and now Shadow Lake, has been very helpful...from explaining charges on my account we were billed to issues with some employees at Tara Plaza....which he dealt with those issues swiftly and appropriately and even checked back in with me to let me know the issues with said employees wouldn't happen again. I feel valued as a member knowing the district manager would go to bat for me when his employees were in the wrong. Mike even congratulated me and checked in on my progress regularly. Feels great when employees care as much as I do about when I meet goals, lose another pound, or have a body fat % reduction.
I like the sauna at this location the best as it feels like the hottest one of the four locations I've went to in this area. The helixco lateral trainer and curved treadmill were some of my favorite cardio machines at...

I am revisiting a review here. I don't recommend this location, especially in the evenings. This place serves its function, but there is a lot of nonsense going on here, and it's very clear that management either doesn't care or doesn't have the power to do anything about it. Random suspicious people wandering the parking lot. Cars without license plates. Very weird behavior in the locker rooms and saunas (people loitering, especially teenagers who apparently have nothing better to do on a tuesday night "hey mom I'm going to the gym".. right..). The locker system is worthless, there should be an option to use your own lock. Oh and of course signs saying "we are not responsible for your stolen belongings". That's a good description of Genesis management: irresponsible. Seems very aloof, and incapable of doing anything. Locker rooms smell like they are barely clean, showers often have no hot water. Part of the problem is likely that memberships can go month to month since covid. I hated multi-year contracts too, but now I see a possible advantage to them.
Old review: Pro: new remodel makes locker room nice. Con: everyone and their mother goes here now. Pro: shampoo, conditioner and lotion all provided. Con: Loss prevention has come up with the perfect formula for shampoo, shaving cream and lotion that smells horrible and no one would ever use in their right mind. Pro: lockers self remember the combination you set meaning you don't need a lock. Con: no one seems to remember or understand how they work, and half the lockers are locked (probably empty). Also no...
Read moreIgnore the fake smiles. Trainers are just gossipy judgemental people. They're too superficial to know how to create a professional environment to provide satisfactory customer service. If you're looking for some hgh or to hop on stage it might be okay but, If you're a beginner or someone who's overcome injuries and trying to get back to working out these are trainers you want to avoid.
Unfortunately with a place that falls constantly behind on maintenance, it doesn't have the quality customer service to justify the price they charge. The equipment in general is mostly torn up. There are some decent machines but should be in way better condition for the price. The basketball court is well over due for replacement, at this point the court is a complete safety hazard with how warped the boards are. Sad enough they don't have the ability to renovate the court but half the time they don't even replace torn nets for weeks to months.
They do have a decent cleaning crew but the staff is incapable of maintaining the gym the hours they aren't there to clean, so the gym usually gets left in a constant state of funk to put it nicely.
Really wouldn't recommend this gym. But, there also might be some better staffs at other locations that might make it worth while. There have been some decent staffs to roll through but with the constant staff overturn...
