My family joined this wonderful Congregation in 1982 and it became our life till 1989 when my husband was transferred as a chef to Lakeland Florida It still remains the most powerful inspirational and loving time in my Episcopalian life since my baby baptism. My children and I were welcomed challenged and involved from the first. My children never ate grapes because of Chavez My daughter spent a Sunday morning with Bishop Tutu who chose to speak to the children in Sunday worship and now as she is 43 years old it planted a mustard seed which has affected her life as an adult. Our youngest son was the Christmas baby and George met with us before and held him as one of his own. I have all the love in my heart for all the wonderful staff and the congregation where we nurtured our children and each other while we supported the homeless men in LA joined in Ecumenical cooperation and opened the eyes of our children when the 6th graders went to Prague and the Seniors to Moscow. What a vision for theses Good Servan young minds to experience another culture and be worldly citizens for our tomorrow. I feel blessed as a wife mother and most important as a Christian believer to have had the possibility to participate and empower my children to what it means to love care and pay it forward. Thank you George for your love for God’s church and your love for your church and your own family. May you Rest In Peace knowing you were a good servant to us...
Read moreUsed to be the most beautiful Episcopal church in the area; unfortunately the traditional and beautiful interior was gutted, the rood screen and divided choir removed and the marble altar torn out and away from its eastern orientation. Upon a recent visit I must apologize for and retract my comment about the removal of the rood screen; it does remain but is barely visible in context of"renovations" to the choir space. That new orientation sadly reflects the role of the choir in that the presentation is that of a stage or concert Towards an audience, not the inclusion of all the congregants united in praise and supplication towards the Diety. In a tradition that is heavily symbolic, as in Anglicanism, this is importantly telling. They did install a lovely indoor labyrinth which is great for...
Read moreThis church is very inclusive and welcoming of all people. The services are also broadcast live, as are some forums (which are typically held before the later morning service), and there's usually a sign-language interpreter at the 10AM service. A portion of most 10AM services also include readings in multiple languages (primarily in English, and Spanish, Mandarin, or Korean), with each of the languages printed in the church weekly bulletin. The choirs and music presentations are wonderful and include opportunities for youth as well as adult participants. Stringently old-fashioned folks may not be thrilled with some aspects of the services, but if you are open minded and willing to accept less "traditional norms" &/or openness, I suggest you attend at least via their YouTube...
