Most of the time I feel that a hardware store is a hardware store. If I know what I need I run in and grab it and I run back out and my only interaction is with the cashier. I have been to Miller's hardware several times if I need something in the area. I do service at customers homes and to find a hardware store like this that has a lot of rare or specialty items is wonderful. My most recent experience was wanting a surround tub that was listed online very cheap. I called a couple different Ace Hardwares closer to home in Scott Township trying to find one in stock. I ended up ordering it from Miller's Hardware because the person who answered the phone took the time and actually offered to order it in and have it by Tuesday. Well they got it in on Monday. When I first entered the door I told the gentleman standing near the carts that I needed salt and I asked him if I bring it in or order it and pick it up on my way out and he instructed to pay first and pick it up. He also instructed me as to where the service counter was so I could ask for the surround tub that I ordered in. The gentleman at the service desk who grabbed my surround tub was the same gentleman who ordered it for me. Very kind and pleasant. the cashier was trying to look up my Ace Hardware account information and couldn't find me in the system because I opened it at another Branch. By the time I pulled up my number on my account he had already found it. My coupon didn't have a code but my coupon didn't have a barcode but he manually entered it so I could save my $10 from the coupon. Again, very helpful to take the time to actually look me up as opposed to just telling me that my number does not bring me up and I need to register it. So from my initial phone call and three employees later I must say the overall service was well above and beyond. The store is 15 miles out of my way compare two more local Ace Hardwares in Greentree and surrounding areas but I'm glad to...
Read moreI like Miller's Ace Hardware. I purchased the Milwaukee hand dolly to help with the move I was doing and was shocked to find I chose to return it. The staircase made of wood where I moved to has 26 steps with a platform at 21st step. By the tenth step of the dolly working against me, I was ready to sling it across the planet out of frustration. I don't have time or energy for these shenanigans. When I would pull the dolly up and over the step, it would roll backwards to the back of that step and then you had to expend more energy to get it up and over that lip. This dolly stated it would hold up to 150 pounds. I had two boxes of canned foods weighing 25 pounds each on it. 50 pounds! Imagine more weight on it. Wheels should have been more helpful and the red brackets in the back seemed like they actually either added and helped gravity or were there to stabilize the wheels. The wheels were thin compared to what I was expecting for a dolly. This dolly is more for teachers or walking across a parking lot into a building with an elevator or escalator.
I haven't returned many items to this store if it wasn't the first product.
There was very little social distancing at 3:30-3:45pm and not many masks on customers. I had one on and approximately two other...
Read moreI'm not sure how to explain how much I appreciate this place. They have the items you need when the guys at the big-box stores just look at you funny. Tiny metric machine screws for my daughter's tap shoes? Yep, drawers full of them. #4x1/4 inch wood screws for a robotics project? Yep, got those too. Sand-able wood filler in WHITE so I don't have to put 3 coats of paint on everything again after driving a few brads? Yep, got it. Of course, they have the usual stuff, too, plumbing, electrical, hardware, tools, and their holiday and outdoor decorations are superb. And here is another nice thing. Call them and ask if they have something. You will get a human being who makes sure he understands what you are looking for, then he'll put you on hold for a not-ridiculous length of time before actually getting back to you, and if they have it, they will put it aside for you. Try THAT at a big box store. On the negative side, they are about 5% more expensive than the big-box chains. That's about an eighth of a star in my mind because the place is closer so I'm saving gas and I can get in and out very quickly. If you haven't been to this store, stop by and look around. You will be...
