50 Shades Nail — Local services in Philadelphia

I really wanted to like this place but it just didn’t work for me. I went here from August through November 2024. I got a pedicure during my first visit and was really pleased. I booked a full set for two weeks later with the person that did my pedicure. When I arrived, I was told that nail tech was not in today. I didn’t get any type of notice that she would not be in. I think that should’ve been a common courtesy especially when you book with a certain person. While there, I overheard the other techs saying that the person I was originally booked with was home waiting for a sofa to be delivered. I get it, we all have lives, but I booked with her because I was pleased with my first service. I got the full set by someone else and it appeared to be a decent job. I was a little turned off my the nail tech cursing. Don’t get me wrong, I curse, but as a first time client with her, the cursing was unprofessional IMO. 24 hours later, the polish had streaks all over my nail. I went back and the tech asked me if I rubbed my nails on jeans. It was 100 degrees with 100% humidity. I had not worn jeans in the 24 hours since getting them done. So I paid for a polish change. The next visit I was booked with the original person that did my pedicure and this time, I get an email notification right before my appt. that I was switched to another nail tech. I assumed she was out again. I show up and not only is she there, but in walks another customer after me and she does her nails. I’m not one to make a scene, but this made me angry. Why have people book with a certain person only to be bumped whenever they feel like it? I got my nails done and asked for chrome. I think this was the techs first time doing chrome. She had to redo it like 5 times and the end result was ok, but it looked horrible on my cuticles (see pics). I then tried another tech and each time, the polish peeled. I mean all the polish on the nail just peeled away a day or two later. I went back & it was fixed, only to happen again the very next day - peeling see pics. I work from home on a computer all day so there’s nothing I did to make the polish chip and peel so quickly. At that point I just gave up and...

Went online around 7:30 in the evening for the next day. The minute I booked my appt, I realized I had to work & couldn't make that time (I was frustrated at myself lol). When I went to reschedule, I saw that they charge you $20 for less than 24 hour cancellation. So, I waited to call the next day, not to cancel, simply to reschedule. They still charged me the $20 for less than 24 hr cancellation. Mind you, I booked the appt in less than 24 hours!!! When I spoke to them on the call, they refused to remove the $20 fee. Told me, it's their policy. Customer service is disappointing. I will not go back.

Response to owner: I have been to 50 Shades Nail 3 times. One time, I called and made appt. So only twice did I book online & I never have cancelled. There were open appts that entire afternoon, I definitely did not take someone’s opportunity to get an appt nor did you have to sit for 45min because I cancelled an appt that wasn’t even on your calendar when you left the day before. The appt I schedule was at 4:45 in the afternoon & I called once you guys opened in the morning to reschedule. This is a unique situation. Also, I will review good and bad. If a business is a great experience, I will absolutely give a positive review. I believe in giving credit where it is due. This wasn’t about convenience. First i’d like to say any scrapes on my hands were NOT from this salon, I had came with them already.

I made a last minute appointment online for nails I want for my birthday. It was easy online and it’s nice it’s there because i’m really awkward on calls. Mary did dip on my nails as well as do tips and the art on it! I love love love my nails so much, they’re so feminine and make me feel pretty. :) I showed a photo and she did her own twist on it and I personally love how it came out better than the photo! I was there for about two hours, and the environment is very pretty and clean. She also double checked with me with the shape which made me feel good because I do not speak up! I came in with awful nails from another salon and Mary literally gave me dream nails from above. I’m so happy I can’t stop looking at them. I will be coming...
