This review is for the work performed by their jeweler. I cannot speak to any other services such as ordering already made jewelry.
For anyone looking for a jeweler to make any sort of adjustments or repairs, no matter how minor they may seem, I highly encourage you to not use Carter's in Picayune. They do not do quality work nor show pride in their work, nor do they have adequate quality control or customer service. I learned this the hard way. The silver lining is I found an amazing jeweler I would trust immensely for any jewelry needs. That is Salles in Slidell (behind Rotolo's on Gause).
I needed my ring sized down and stopped in to inquire options. The man at the counter recommended sizing beads, which was a good option considering there are diamonds in the band that could be loosened with a down sizing. The only reason I am giving two stars instead of one is because I had never heard of sizing beads and really appreciated this approach.
Left the ring with them that day, picked it up the next day and immediately noticed that the sizing beads they added did not match in color to the white gold ring. I voiced this and the guy brushed it off, saying it was the lighting in the store. In addition, they did not center the sizing beads - one was sort of out to the side while the other was towards the bottom.
Later that day, standing outside, I noticed the yellow was there - it was not the lighting. So, I did some research and found it was likely because the jeweler did not add the rhodium plate (which is what makes white gold white) to match the rest of the ring. This made the beads they added as well as the bottom section of the band visibly yellow.
I was very upset. Having paid $150 to have two tiny balls of white gold added, I was willing to just throw that money away because I did not trust the establishment at this point - either to do good quality work OR to be honest and provide good customer service.
Rather than leave it at that, I decided to at least give them the opportunity to address the issue. My fiance took it to him the next day to voice the concern with the mismatched color - the guy immediately apologized and acknowledged they did not add the rhodium plate and asked if they could correct rhe problem - indicating they could fix it right away.
My fiance brought the ring home to me - and the ring was far worse.
For starters, they only added the rhodium to one side (bead and band), so the other side and bead were still yellow. On top of that, the one they did add rhodium to was significantly larger than the other & made for a significantly lopsided appearance. Because of this, the ring would not even fit on my finger anymore. At all. Whatsoever. Lastly, one of the diamonds on the band was now black somehow.
I was devastated.
It took me about a week to gain the courage to seek assistance correcting all the issues this jeweler sloppily introduced into my ring.
Luckily, I did find an amazing jeweler that was able to correct all the issues. Properly moving the sizing beads to equal positions at the bottom, properly adding the rhodium plate CONSISTENTLY along the bottom so the ring once again has consistent color, and matching size of the beads, as well as having to remove the stone that was black to thoroughly clean it (it was black because the jeweler at Carter's did not properly protect/shield the stones on the band while applying the heat for the sizing beads - according to the professional jeweler that corrected the issues, this causes sediment that can be very difficult to remove).
Save yourself the headaches of having repairs at Carter's. Instead, drive to Slidell and let the professionals at Salles...
Read moreI've been using Varters Jewlers as my primary store for a little under 2 years now. Why did I wait so long?!?! I don't know. But I'm very glad I made the switch!! They are professional, friendly, respectful, courteous, and fun to shop and design with! Read on for my adventures with them!!
We had a Hawaiian bracelet plus a wedding set turned into 5 rings. We could not have asked for better jewelry. 3 rings had the Hawaiian decoration kept on them. They took 2 flowers that were carved into it & turned them into the centerpiece of the rings. They are gorgeous!! I then came up frm Slidell, LA to sell some gold. What service! He explained each piece and his processes to pricing it. I got most of it from garage & estate sales. They made me feel very comfortable doing the transaction. Turns put they like buying gold from people, it's cheaper than from a manufacturer. So I was doing them a favor as well as they did for me. Several more trips and I got a 3 diamond ring designed and made in about 2 & 1/2 weeks. Again, very gorgeous!! Now the have a ring that they are making into a pendant. I can't...
Read moreI went by the store to have links removed on 2 watches purchased elsewhere, I was greeted as soon as I walked in and both bands were adjusted at no cost. I purchased a last minute Christmas gift of a Pandora charm for the wife and left a ring to be fixed. I was told it would maybe take a week for the repair, well I got a call the next day telling me it was fixed. It was and while there I purchased a pandora bracelet and another charm for the wife. Carter Jeweler’s has a clean easily accessible location with a very friendly staff. I had an all around great shopping experience and...
