Have to drop the score...used to be great store, but in 2025 that's changed. I had a game I preordered the special edition of in January, that released on June 5 2025. I had called a MONTH prior to confirm the preorder was in, because it is a niche game with a limited release, and I didn't want it to be screwed up. They CONFIRMED over the phone that my preorder was the special edition ($100 edition). I showed up on June 5, and the staff was deeply unprofessional and were moving slowly. They had one register tied up by a man who had a console trade that couldn't be finished without a system update, and so for 30 minutes he stood there waiting for it to be completed. He offered to move aside so that others could go since the line had backed up to the entrance of the store from the registers, but the staff member said "Don't worry about it, everyone's here for the Switch 2 release"; when he asked if anyone wasn't, I said "I'm here to pick up a game preorder", but that didn't change anything and he told the man to just keep going with the update to finish the trade in. The other register was preoccupied by a pokemon card trade, which was taking somehow equally as long to process the five cards that were brought in. I and the people behind me stood in line for 30 minutes for at least ONE transaction to be completed. The kicker? By the time I got to the register, and asked for my preorder, they handed me the STANDARD EDITION COPY. And when I informed them that I had not only preordered the Special Edition but had confirmed in May that it was the special edition, they said "It's not available, there isn't one in transit, and that whoever had confirmed it was the special edition had made a mistake". I am now trying to find the special edition online, but nobody has it available because again, IT WAS A LIMITED EDITION OF A SMALL GAME MADE BY A SMALL COMPANY. So not only did we have to deal with apathetic staff who didn't care about the line or the customer's time; they were unwilling to do anything to address my preorder being the incorrect edition. I am incredibly upset about this, especially as someone who used to WORK at GameStop. I have never been to a store that displayed so much apathy and disregard for their customers' wellbeing. I didn't say a word about it when I was in the store. I canceled my preorder, took my cash back and left. I will NOT be preording with the Pineville store again, and I strongly recommend no one else does until they either get their act together, or get staff members in the store who...
Read moreYesterday around 8pm, my daughter and I stopped in to exchange her Nintendo Switch w/ our warranty because it had stopped working. A slightly unpleasant, young lady called us up to the counter and when we explained our situation, she basically shut us down at every turn 😒. We didn't have our receipt BC the Switch was a Xmas gift from her grandma (who's in MD). We also weren't able to figure out which phone number was used for the warranty 😡.
When we began originally experiencing the issues another employee at another GameStop suggested my daughter buy a new controller and that would solve the problem. My daughter who is an extremely independent 11 yr old insisted on buying it w/ her money 🙄. Unfortunately, the new controller DIDN'T solve the problem. Now, this young lady was really going to let us leave the store with a broken console AND not to mention a useless, brand new, $40 controller that my daughter was upset about wasting her money on 😠😠. My mind was totally made up that after 2 children and many years of being a customer, I'd never set foot in another GameStop again. Then, in swooped Dustin (I really hope I'm getting his name correct) like the hero that he is. I looked at him similar to how Krillin looked at Goku when he finally made it back to Earth during the Frezia saga. Like I wasn't sure if he could help, but he was our (my) best hope at survival.
Dustin went above and beyond for us, from searching every number possible to scanning the console and receipts, to even calling in the SKU # and finally finding our warranty and being able to help us 🤗. We ended up swapping out her Switch, purchasing a new 2 yr warranty and he was even able to find her the Smash Bros. game she wanted so much!! 😁
My daughter was so excited and told me as we were leaving "I'm a great Daddy". As a parent those words are priceless. Thank Dustin for making 2 stranger's day. Kindness and caring goes a long way! You...
Read moreI do not review stores like GameStop. I review food, attractions, etc.
This GameStop is a clear case for why no one wants to go any more. I haven't been to a brick and mortar store in 10+ years, I mostly purchase games through Steam these days.
It started with the pre-ordering the Switch 2, the staff there were insanely slow, disorganized, and seemed a little peeved to be there that day.
When I say disorganized, I mean it took at least an hour to checkout the 10ish people ahead of me.
Melik did my order that day and was incredibly unfriendly, apathetic, and just generally miserable seeming. He was also on the phone with what sounded like a personal call.
I let it go, whatever, it's not that big of a deal.
Today, a month later, I went to pick up my Switch 2 and Melik checks me out again. Once again, he's on the phone, which at least this time, sounded like a work call. The process is also very cumbserome. They have one guy at the door, just...standing there, trying to upsell warranties and screen protectors, and then one person checking people out. It took 30ish minutes to checkout 5 people... why!? It should be quick process.
He's once again though, very short, unfriendly, and comes off as rude. His body language screams of him not wanting to be there.
I ended up being owed money on my pre-order, not sure how, but he didn't explain or anything. Just turns around, grabs a gift card from the drawer, literally tosses it on the table and says "swipe it", that's it. No explanation, no please, no anything.
I understand that GameStop is a casual place and that it's not that serious. But if you're going to be customer facing, at least pretend to have some basic concepts of how to speak with customers.
I will not be back to this GameStop, I will not be near any for the foreseeable future. Melik needs to work literally any where not...
