On 11/9/23 after getting off work, I took my children to Costco to get Pizza and check out some furniture for our new home. It was raining so I let my son out at the door with the card and parked. Upon entering the store, I saw 3 people walk in without showing their card. I was relieved because I gave my card to my son to enter the store. Renice a manager stopped me and my 6yr old daughter and asked for our card. I informed my son had it and he just came in. I continued to enter the store, Renice said that I could not enter without my card. I reiterate my son entered before me and he had the card. I also expressed the 3 families that entered before me without showing their card. Renice told me they were drying their cart off and had children with them. I told her so did I. She hopped in front of me as to stop me which made me very upset as I instantly saw that she was clearly racially profiling me. As I continued to walk to meet up with my son she followed behind me expressing what I can now see as hate and anger towards me for entering Costco. Once I saw my son waiting for me, I immediately asked some employees by the registers for a manager. Patrick Stated Renice was the manager, Renice started to tell Patrick what happened, and he turned his attitude towards me stating she was right! Feeling defeated I asked my son for the card I showed it to both Renice and Patrick. Renice tried to snatch my card, so I pulled it back totally confused as to why she needed to hold my card. Renice expressed needing to run the card to see if my name and picture matched my License. I got so upset at this point. I told her she did not need to see the card or my license. Renice and Patrick asked me to leave. A manager Shawn came over and I was so embraced and upset I started to cry. Everyone in the store was looking at me and I felt so low and disrespected in front of my children. I told Shawn what had happened and how I felt my skin color was the reason she was treating me this way. I told Shawn if running the card was a requirement, they should have some type of handheld device at the door checking membership cards and licenses at the door for EVERYONE who attempted to enter. I also told him, for example if I did not have a card what danger would I cause all I could do is look around anyway. I told him I loved Costco but had never been treated so badly at any locations I’ve visited in the past. My family had just relocated from California, and this was the closet location to us. Shawn bought my pizza I was going to get for my Children and apologized. Shawn expressed that she was not suppose to handle me that way. My husband also ended up coming in to assist me. He heard what was going on when he called my phone. I honestly think she should not be allowed to represent this company. I also feel that in 2023 she is a couple decades late to racially profile anyone as she did me. My whole family was hurt, upset, and embarrassed. I have not been in Costco since. It took me some time to get over what happened and not sure if I ever will re-enter the store. What can be done what justice is there for my family? My 6yr old daughter still brings up how scared she was that the lady at the store acted like she did. Which is another reason I am writing this today. Every time she brings it up, What resolve can I tell her happened? How do I make it make sense to her young mind? You can not treat African Americans like trash and expect to get away with it!!! I Will Not Let This Go Until I Get...

Read moreI just had the worst interaction with Phil at the merchandise return counter. I’ve been coming to the this costco since I was a child, basically my whole life ( I’m 23 now) and have always loved coming to the point that my mom would make friends with some of the employees ( james is the best costco employee ever!). Today I went to store to pick up fruits for my best friends bridal shower since I’m the only once with a membership. On the way home I received a phone call from her mother letting me know the party is being cancelled due to the groom’s uncle being hospitalized, for a very serious condition and was placed into a coma. I was instructed by her to return the fruit since It was all gonna go to waste and to get the money back. When I returned to the costco I immediately received a nasty face from Phil as I was walking in with all the front. I let him know about the situation and he instantly raised his voice with the nastiest attitude I’ve ever seen come from a grown man. He told me he would have to throw away all the fruit since it had left the building. I felt horrible but It wasn’t my money and I did what i was asked to do. He kept repeating that he had to throw it away with such a rude tone. My own father has never spoken to me that way. finally, I was fed up, and I asked him if he had an issue with me since his attitude was very unsettling. He said that he didn’t and I responded and told him he was being very aggressive and abrasive with me. His attitude instantly changed, and he apologized for his behavior. I don’t understand why people who work in customer service think they can speak to people this way. I know for a fact, if I didn’t stand up for myself, he would’ve still continued treat me as he did before. Costco please do better. I’m very...
