Bruton’s review A shining jewel in downtown Plant City. Walk in the door and step into a moment in time where the gentle wisps of fragrant tobaccos, the playful rhythm of a piano tune, and the soft hum of pleasant conversation fill the senses. The passion for both the City and the business are immediately apparent, as every detail is nothing short of a labor of love. The lounges dark wood trim, cushioned seats, and soft lighting are inviting, and familiar, with pieces of Plant City history and the lounges namesake adorning the walls. The dapper proprietor, David, smiles and greets you, offering a refreshing drink or a cigar recommendation if needed. Your are lead to a handsome room with a sizable selection of cigars of myriad sizes and tastes. He asks a few pointed questions to determine your palate and makes a suggestion. Trusting his experience, you return to the bar area to order your drink from a wonderful variety of cocktails, whiskies, and spirits. A few of the patrons greet you warmly and introduce themselves as your drink is being prepared. The skilled bartender flashes a smile and hands you your drink and after a taste, you take a moment to marvel at the quality of the recipe. Thanking the lady, you head up a spiral staircase to the balcony. Opening the door, your are met with a wonderful view of downtown Plant City. The City’s evening lights coupled with the lounges own soft ambiance set a serene picture. Taking a seat, with a gentle spark of flame, you light your cigars and become part of the...
Read moreThe good: There's some outdoor seating on the ground level, plus a rooftop patio. Indoors has the air of a private club from the early 1900s. Super cool vibe, gorgeous woodwork, big leather chairs and sofas. Friendly bartenders, and a varied and interesting clientele. I've been a few times now and there's always someone to talk to. They have a huge selection of whiskeys and a handful of other standards, plus some good beers.
The bad: Inside the bar is very small; if it's too hot or cold, or otherwise not great for sitting outside, it gets crowded very quickly. The atmosphere is incredibly smoky— no Smoke Eater type air filters or anything to be seen. You expect smoke in a cigar bar, of course! To a degree it's inescapable. But this is really something else, to the point I wonder about the health implications for the bartenders that are in there every day. If you're there for drinks or company rather than cigars, be prepared to secondhand-smoke the equivalent...
Read moreI was the guest of a friend at Bruton’s and I was honored to have been taken there! David is the wonderful and knowledgeable owner/host and took time to share some of his knowledge and experience with single malt scotch.
The carpentry on display in this Plant City gem is worth a visit by itself! Expert and entry-level woodworkers will enjoy looking up, down and around at the artistic details that are rarely seen today.
Whether you are a seasoned cigar aficionado (I am not) or an amateur (I am), David will guide you toward the perfect smoke, based on your preferences. (I simply wanted a cigar that I wouldn’t still taste three days later!)
Try Bruton’s out for yourself - indoors or out - and and enjoy atmosphere and service you probably didn’t know...
