Prices consistently higher and quality of items consistently lower than their other store located off I-29 exit 5. The staff tends to be unwelcoming and rude. My husband was in the car with our napping son, and I stated at the register that I would be stepping out and my husband would be paying. The older woman at the register immediately launched into a tirade that the cardholder has to be present like we were trying to steal. Lady, my husband was the cardholder, and that is exactly why I was stepping out and my husband coming in. She was extremely rude to him because the front of the card was a solid color with just the credit card logo on it. She refused the card. He had to insist multiple times that she turn over the card so she could see the cardholder name, card number, expiration date, and 3-digit code clearly printed on the back. My husband showed her his driver's license with matching cardholder name. She was angry and didn't speak the rest of the transaction or make eye contact. No "have a good day" or anything. Not worth the money saved to be treated less than human. The other cashiers are barely any better than her, with the exception of the one older gentleman. Go to their other location instead for better prices, better items, and much much better and...
Read moreTo be honest I first went to shop at Hillcrest at 10:30 in the morning, only to find them closed....with the Covid hours changes I was too early....the fault was mine....We were on our way to St Joseph and the rest of my party wanted to keep moving, reassuring me we would get back on time to shop in the afternoon...When we did get back I only had 20 minutes to shop. Understandably I felt a little rushed but I found several items in blue and white glassware and tried to see as much of the store as possible. When the closing announcement came over the intercom I went straight to the registers. Even though the lines were long, the cashiers were very polite and courteous and took great care packing my purchases. In closing...it was a very pleasant experience. Just too short...That's not Hillcrest's fault at all....I have shopped there for many years and will continue to look forward to every...
Read moreThis is a wonderful thrift store that really curates its merchandise. It serves a great mission, helps so many people, and I highly recommend shopping there and supporting their mission.
However. Please beware of getting employment through them. I loved working there, but had some intense personal issues. While my immediate manager was very supportive of me seeking help, which did take me away from work, there were higher ups that didn’t support this journey, and subsequently fired me, and didn’t return my property that I’d left.
Again, such lovely people. The volunteers are amazing a so kind and thoughtful, which is where I started before getting a paid position. Don’t neglect this diamond. It’s really worth shopping and volunteering if you...
