What started as an amazing build-your-own wedding dress experience turned into one of my wedding nightmares just 3 days before my wedding. (A long read but could save you many unnecessary tears before your wedding day.)
3 months prior, I came here and got an amazing wedding dress to rent picked out, fitting exactly to me and what I wanted. We put some money down and we were told that my dress would be reserved for my wedding day and we would pick it up 3 days prior at 11 am. Flash forward to 3 days before my wedding, I get a call from here saying I âmissedâ my appointment for 9 am to pick up my dress (which was false because we scheduled it for 11 am; I am an organized person and I would not make a scheduling mistake like that). They try and reschedule me for another day but I have bridals later the same day and my wedding is 3 days away so I need it as soon as possible. They didnât have it marked down that my wedding was 3 days away but they said I could rush there and get it before the 11 am appointments start. Already rattled by being rescheduled without warning, my mom and I rush over there. Upon arrival, I walk into the dressing room and they donât have my dress for me. They have given me a size too big, a different white, and too long of a dress. They put it on me and it obviously doesnât fit, but they gaslight me for a little bit, trying to make this one work. I have tears rolling down my face at this point and barely holding it together so my mom finally convinced them to get my size and the right shade of white. This one fit better and was the right white, but itâs still too long. The length i originally tried on was perfect, where was that one? The one we put money down on to reserve? They say, âOops, someone else rented that one already đ¤ˇđťââď¸â We say, âWell letâs get this one hemmed then,â And they tell us, âNo, since youâre renting it we canât hem it.â ALL OF THESE PROBLEMS ARE YOUR FAULT!! They had no mercy for us even when I was visibly not okay and crying. There was one seamstress there that was kind to me that I appreciated, but the others didnât seem to care that they had royally messed this up AND THIS IS LITERALLY THEIR JOB. It doesnât stop there. Now it was time to attach the sleeves on the dress that was still too long because they already rented out the one I was supposed to have. We were told we would get sleeves with lace to match the train but that didnât happen (big surprise), so they bring in some other lace cape sleeves. The left one looks nice but the right one is too bulky and it doesnât match up with the left one. They keep saying it looks fine and that the sleeves are barely different. After being gaslit for 5 minutes we finally realize they gave me 2 LEFT SLEEVES and thatâs why the right sleeve wasnât laying correctly, it was meant to be a left sleeve!! Iâm trying not to sob at this point and turns out they donât even have a right sleeve of this cut so who knows what poor girl got two right sleeves on her wedding dress and now there are only two left sleeves. After much convincing they get the designer on the phone and the least they can do for us after messing basically everything else up was make me a right sleeve, which they did actually do by some miracle. Maybe they heard my muffled sobs when they left the room and decided to have the slightest bit of mercy. When they finished that and we took the dress home, we got hem tape and makeshift altered the length to be more manageable.
The moral of the story is if you want to get the dress of your dreams, LOOK ELSEWHERE. Gowns by Pamela was incredibly unprofessional when it mattered most. It seems that they got overbooked and unfairly let me pay the price for their many mistakes. Looking for a dress is stressful enough, donât let Gowns by Pamela ruin your dress expectations days before...
Read moreBack in march I went with my sister to pick out a wedding dress! She had been to a number of places already and was starting to worry that she would never find a dress she loved. That is when we decided to schedule an appointment at Gowns by Pamela! We called them to schedule the appointment and the women we spoke to was super friendly and easy to work with. When we got there, the environment was so awesome. Their suite was super clean, and decorated very nicely. They had comfy places to sit and enough room for our whole entourage. The consultant we worked with was Emily, and she was amazing! She asked us a bunch of questions about ourselves and we felt like she was truly trying to get to know us, not just make a sale. We also really appreciated how one on one the experience was. We had gone to a number of different dress shops, and often the consultants were juggling multiple brides at once, leaving us sitting and waiting to ask questions or request different dresses. At Gowns by Pamela, Emily was only working with us and so we were able to try on a bunch of dresses, adjust them to how they felt best, take photos and really just enjoy our time. We never felt rushed or like she was trying to move onto a different bride. My sister was able to just show her a couple of photos of dresses she had liked and Emily was super quick to pull dresses she thought my sister would like. She was able to customize the sleeves, and the fit and choose a veil and belt to take with her for her wedding day! All in all, it felt like what picking out a wedding dress should be! It was so fun, and we felt zero stress the whole time we were there. At the end of our appointment, my sister actually followed Emily on instagram, and a few days later Emily personally reached out to my sister to say she was so glad my sister followed her & if we were still planning on coming in for our final try on before placing a deposit! Companies nowadays often donât have that kind of personal touch and so it was so nice to receive that kind of customer service! We felt like we truly had made a friend! We recommend Gowns by Pamela to everyone we know whoâs looking for a wedding dress, and I will definitely be going there when itâs my turn to say yes...
Read more*EDIT After reading my review GBP reached out to me and we were able to find a resolution to accommodate both parties. While I was still sad about my experience, their willingness to make it right and find a generous resolution did leave me feeling better. Even though I had a difficult experience, I do greatly appreciate that they were willing to work with me and offer different solutions to make this difficult experience better! I decided to rent my gown from here because of so many great reviews. I feel upset though, I decided on the dress and style and before my fitting appointment I loved it. It was beautiful. Everything looked amazing! Everything fit great, everything was how I wanted it. I felt so excited to finally have my dress and feel like a princess on my wedding day... When I went to go get fitted though, the entire thing felt rushed and by the end I didn't love the result. I should have said something at the studio when I felt just unsure about the shoulders but because the fitting session was so quick I didn't fully notice how boxy the shoulders of the dress had been sewn on. You only get it for so many days and with all the wedding being finalized and everything else, there was not enough time to have them fixed once I noticed the issue. I have boxy, ill fitted shoulders in all my photos as well as an odd waist line because it was sewn to a top that didn't seem to fit well either. My mistake for choosing somewhere that only does lace up backs to insure it "fits" everyone. If you want to look back on your wedding day photos without any remorse or unhappy tears. I would recommend either demanding an appointment that isn't slammed against other fittings/appointments or make sure you have enough time to get it altered again if you need to or flat out go somewhere else. I was so hopeful that maybe it was all in my head but the more photos I showed to friends and family, they all noticed the issue too. đ seriously disappointed and I dont know if I would ever recommend this place to anyone else.
