I visited this store with my 2 daughters (who happen to be mixed race on the darker-skinned side). We browsed for about 10 mins before deciding on 4 items to purchase (an anklet $9.99, a jar of local honey $15.99, a puzzle $12.99 and a coffee mug $12.99 for a total cost of $52.96). The sales associate (perhaps the shop owner) rang in the items and they totaled $74.38 - my daughter said, âWow, $74 for 4 things?!?â To which he replied, âYup, these things add up.â By this time, I had already handed him my card to swipe (he does not have one there on the counter to swipe it yourself), but as I think about what we just purchased, itâs actually NOT adding up. As he is handing me my receipt (which is NOT itemized) I ask him to please recheck the amount. He proceeded to remove the 4 items he just bagged and spread them on the counter, then looks at his register receipt and sees that he charged us $9.99 twice. He refunded me the $10.61 and we headed out the door and met with my mom who was waiting outside. The amount still wasnât sounding right to me, but remember, I didnât have an itemized receipt, so I decided to chalk it up as a loss. No sooner did we get our bags together that were outside with my mom did this man come out and start accusing my daughter of shoplifting a second damn anklet. He had her empty her pockets and even had me empty the bags that were outside with my mom the entire time!! Needless to say, he did NOT find any stolen merchandise - and I definitely got a refund on my purchase. (Photo of receipt added to photos to prove that I AM talking about the right store, and these events DID take place there - I saw a review from another customer who was accused of shoplifting and the ownerâs response was that the customer must have been confused about which store he was at)
I believe the man charged me $22.99 for the puzzle rather than &12.99, but I still canât be sure - I just know that there were only 5 items on the sales tape attached to his register.
Really long story short, if u do shop here, watch how he rings in your items and be aware of racial profiling.
My daughter handled the situation way better than I did, but she did break down and cry immediately after and also let me know that the man had been following her around the store and making her uncomfortable the entire time we were in there (she is...
Read moreAdorable gift stop with terrific selection, and good prices. I spent part of the day here with family and stopped in this clean, organized and well stocked store. Not only did I leave with some great gifts⌠I also left indebted to the kind and generous owner. while there, I lost a valuable and important piece of jewelry. The owner was gracious enough to respond to my phone calls, searched for and found the item. Then even mailed my keepsake back to me at his expense. So I would recommend definitely stopping at Plymouth Rock, the harbor, but also The...
