While it was a bit of a rough start to the program, due to there being no teacher and no teacher's assistant available for my chosen course when I started, I feel as Ross pulled through well and made it work. They had all hands on deck to make sure students received the education they were paying for while they searched for a teacher and teacher's assistant. Even the program chair of the veterinary assistant program, Kristen Terlesky, came out twice a week to the Portage campus to make sure we were receiving the education and help needed throughout the course. The key parts about being successful in this program is a decent-good attitude in and out of the classroom, having a good support system with your classmates, and not being afraid to ask questions even if you think they're "stupid". However, there are things I wish they would improve upon in the program. I would recommend spacing some of the subject matter out more: while only a 9-month program, there would be times in each mod where there was little to nothing to do for students or there would be too much to do in too little time. This was often times either frustrating or stressful for my classmates. There also needs to be more on-hands learning in the classroom. I understand there are regulations and stipulations as to what veterinarian assistants are allowed to be taught in the program, but the more on-hands learning we can do the better. Answers to certain tests, quizzes, and assignments also need to be double checked for accuracy as well. If there could also be more assignments that, once completed, graded, and put into the system, students were allowed to take home as study-material for schooling or even for the future, that would be highly recommended as well. Otherwise, I've had a blast. Thank you for the opportunity...
Read moreOkay so I just completed my first Mod here at Ross. All in all, my experience has been a very positive one. Our instructor, Ms. Jennifer Rose, was very knowledgeable. I feel I have learned a lot...not just textbook information, but things that will be actively used in the field. The class is very hands on and interactive and I love having hands-on interaction with animals on a daily basis - huge plus! All of my classmates are amazing...just overall, a wonderful place.
So far I am giving Ross four stars. The instructor receives 5/5 for sure, but the way Ross does certain things doesn't make sense/isn't practical. 1. Despite being adults, they want us to somehow provide permission slips for our field trips. Really? Who is supposed to sign them...us? lol Its our last day, and we literally only have our test to do. We are expected to sit here the entire six hours with nothing to do...if we leave early it counts against our attendance. Despite paying a large amount of money to take the course here at Ross, we are still required to pay out of pocket for field trips...shouldn't that be included in our tuition/fees, especially when we are not given the option to go or not.
So anyway, those are a few complaints I have thus far...again, overall, the school is doing its job and I am enjoying my experience.
On a side note, our instructor needs a raise. Seriously, she rocks. She makes the class fun and goes out of her way to help/explain/think of new ways to learn. She's super hands-on and knows...
Read moreComing to Ross I thought I would be having fun, learning a lot, making great memories and starting in a chapter in my life....well that's not it. I'm sitting in class everyday (VA program) not learning anything, the teacher really isn't good at teacher and doesn't try and help with anything. If there is a question she will say " I don't know, look it up!" So with being a new student and in only my 2nd Mod its really frustrating. There's not a lot of "hands on" which probably come with time..let's hope. We are able to bring pets in and do like nail trims but once the pet of the day is moving to much the teacher stops us, when you think about it you can can't do that in practice so it's not helpful. So would I recommend this to others? No, not really. It's way over priced for nothing being taught. I got hit with a monthly bill that I didn't know about. And I come home frustrated every night, in class...
