Ah, wow. Where do I start. How about the fact that this place inspired me to write my first business review? I’ll just give a retelling of the events that occurred. ||||My friend and I took a trip from Seattle to Portland very last-minute. Portland Pensione was one of the few places available that we could see that was close enough to downtown and under $100 (before fees, that is). We booked for one night through Booking.com, and received a confirmation email that our place was reserved. The total came out to $118. That was more than I was hoping to spend, but I thought… it was last minute, at least it’s a place to stay.||||The next morning, we start the bus trip to Portland. Right when we get to Portland, we receive an email that my card was declined. There was absolutely no reason my card would have been declined, so I knew right away something was up. Even though check-in was at 4, we decided to head to Portland Pensione early so that we could straighten out the payment issue. Right when we get there, everything suddenly becomes clear. The “front office” was locked and empty. Some people straight from the cast of Deliverance stood silently, staring at us, and did not break eye contact the entire time we were there. A younger girl sitting at a makeshift desk in the parking lot asked “You guys need a room?” We told her that we’d reserved one, and she called over who I now know to be “Roxy”. ||||Roxy had us follow her into the office. She told us she’d been trying to reach us all day about our payment method. That was a lie. I told her there was no reason why my card would have been declined. Looking for some sort of excuse, she noticed my debit card had a chip, and explained how many times, card with chips don’t work online. Another lie. Sensing my surroundings and the kind of person Roxy was, I decided to just deal with it and work with her. She charged my card there and had me fill out some form. I left about half of it blank because it was either irrelevant or I didn’t know what to put. She seemed not to care. In fact, I have never met someone who cared so little about anything in my life. At this point, I was not expecting any sort of typical hotel customer service, but I could barely even tell Roxy worked there. Thinking about the card issue, I’m betting she canceled the reservation through Booking.com so that she wouldn’t have to pay a fee, as we would show up anyways, needing a room and wanting answers.||||My friend asked if our room was still available. She said “we’ll have to see”. Well seeing as you just charged my card, I would damn well hope it was still available. She said check-in was still at 4, but she would call us if it was ready earlier. She gave us our key too just in case.||||We never got a call, which was fine, I’d rather not talk with her. We spent some time out in the rest of Portland, and returned around 4. Walking up to the room, Roxy let us know that the “towels weren’t ready and still in the wash”. We entered the room, and the despair set in. How do I best describe it?… Right away, the worst, most obvious part of the room became clear: the smell. It smelled like the cheapest cleaning product they could find was being used to cover up something worse. It was nauseating, and very pungent. The floor was hard and sticky, painted black. It was obvious that many, many coats of paint had been applied to the floor, I assume as a substitute for cleaning. I refused to walk in anything less than my shoes, as they stuck to the floor with each step I took. The walls also had many coats of white paint applied. They were still very dirty, covered in dead bugs and…. a blood-splatter? I kid you not, I think the murder cover-up crew forgot a spot (pictured). The entire room looked like a repurposed prison shower. It was very bare-bones. There was a microwave on top of a mini-fridge. There was a Kallax IKEA shelving unit with an old tube TV, and the bed. ||||Let’s talk about the bed. First of all, the bedding was extra. Who in god’s name charges extra for bedding? And what did our money get? Dirty sheets and covers burned by cigarettes. I began inspecting, and my travel companion warned me about uncovering something that would make sleeping here any more difficult. I thought that was a good point. ||||The bathroom was just as disgusting. The shower floor was covered in all manner of stains. By the way, we never ended up getting those towels. Fine with me. We were only there for one night, and decided not to shower at all. We decided to go out and drink so much that night that we would be able to just crash and not think about that disgusting room.||||The next day, we checked out as early as we could. “Check out” sounds like such a formal process, let me say instead that we found Roxy on the side of the road talking to someone through their car window, and just handed her the key. ||||What was the best part about Portland Pensione? The rush of relief and feelings of cleanliness after realizing that we did not have to deal with that place any longer once we handed that key in. ||||The only reason this place stays afloat is because of people like me. Foolish, impulsive travelers that assume anywhere to sleep for the night is better than nowhere. Well next time I find myself in a similar situation, I will plan to find a nice dumpster to sleep against, or perhaps a decent spot in the park. Never, ever assume that any place to stay for the night is better than having no...
Read moreI arrived at Portland pensione and it looked decent enough for the deal was a weekly rate of 500$. They meaning William and L Isa who seem to be running this establishment were nice at first ( will explain situation). When I arrived will was at the front desk and was very professional and pleasant. Which was very nice to arrive to. I was tired and very excited to see my room. When I opened the door for room 27 I noticed cement floors with a coat of mauve paint on them. Hmmm I thought. Then when I walked into the room there were no rugs and i thought wow that's gonna be cold on my feet. Then I looked at the floor in the bathroom and there were not rugs in the bathroom to prevent slipping and i have had a knee surgery so I was pretty concerned. I stayed a few nights and some of my personal property was stolen. A young Hispanic girl had my tablet which was in my backpack that was stolen on the property. Which I have decided to report because the other items were not replaceable. Also they have 3 dogs who run around on no leashes and the white spotted dog barks at me aggressively like it was timid of me. I did not enjoy the encounter. Also the dog run in and out of the rooms Lisa goes into. I'm allergic to pet dander. On the 3rd day a lady next door came back from the hospital. She stayed in room 26. That evening she called for ambulance. She did not get into the ambulance. Which I was a bit concerned considering she is of an older age. I locked my key card in my room and proceeded to ask Lisa for a new key. She looked directly and said " no I'm not making you another key". She walked with an attitude and unlocked my door with her master key. And proceeded to walk away. By this second encounter with Lisa I was real tired of her attitude and customer service. So when that late night hit I woke up about 330am and the older woman was pounding on my cinder block wall and yelling for help. I'm writing this because when I knocked on Lisa and Will's door to let know about the woman I noticed I forgot my key so I was a bit nervous to ask Lisa for another key but I had to continuously knocking. So then I started to hit the doorbell it was nippy. So the door opened up real fast and guess who it was. Lisa,of course, and proceeded to yell at me. And said I have the right to sleep to me. So friendly cool calm and collected walked me to my room. I felt like this aggressive and very unprofessional way I was treated this morning really didn't set with me right. So I decided to speak out about how flex funds from oh give this motel money for my stay. NO PERSON IN THERE RIGHT MIND SHOULD EVER STAY HERE!!! You would think they would have focused on the older woman and making sure she was doing OK but she never left her house. That was...
Read moreToday I went to visit a friend who is rent challenged and has many evictions that were not even his falt over the years due to crappy roommates that did not pay and caused him to be kicked out of over 8 apartments over the years. He has to live here because no one will rent to him in Portland due to the number of evictions and credit problems he has. This was one of the worst rooms that I have ever seen in my entire life and I have stayed in many hotels over the years in Portland and in other states. The place gets $80 a night and it is a DUMP. There are NO amenities and the phones and everything has been ripped out of the walls and never upgraded. The kitchen is very small and has not cabinets at all in it and no storage at all for your food. The hotel is very old and needs an upgrade and know they are not going to do it. I cannot believe this place gets so much money for a hotel that has nothing at all going for it. It needs paint and a huge makeover. They take advantage of the challenged and mentally ill and mentally slow that no no better but to live here due to not being able to rent anywhere else. They are paying A LOT and getting nothing at all. The sheets and beds are dirty and there is NO housekeeping service and the computer signal does not work in the rooms as well if you have a computer and the internet. Please do not stay here because they think you get a reasonable price here at $80 a night. There are other better hotels for the same amount of money and you get amenities. But you get nothing and the hotel is one of the worst in the city if not Oregon. He said this place is booked all the time. I find it hard to believe and know that Oregon is screwing with the vacancy rate on apartments to get more money out of people. You cannot tell me that the horrible places are full as well here because this place is very dirty and old and looks horrible. Do not stay here. It is just real real bad and am sad my friend has to stay in such a horrible place that will never ever be fixed or upgraded at all. He has cats and it is one of the few places that will let cats stay there but he just knows no better. I hope that I can find a better situation for him that will take his pets. Again I know people are desperate but this is a real bad bad place and wish they would tear it down because it is so bad. It is real real real real bad. You have been warned to steer clear from Portland Pensione...
