I was treated like I was in the way of one of the staff members and was basically made to feel stupid.
So we all know the joke that The Home Depot is a "2 trip" shopping experience. Well I was on my 2nd trip where I was looking for elbows and tees etc pipe fittings for my fish tank. I am trying to DIY something so there's no clear instructions or set up - I have to literally create the design myself - so I went to the section where my parts were and I saw one of the staff members step back (I had no idea what was happening and barely knew it was an employee of The Home Depot meaning they didn't greet me or say anything - just stood there.)
As I am trying to figure out what parts I need and try to draw the plans in my head, after about say 5 minutes max - the staff member abruptly approaches me from behind and says "Do you need some help or something because it looks like you're all over the place like you don't know what you're doing?"
Not taking offense immediately (but definitely surprised) I felt like I was in his way and inconveniencing him (that's how he approached me) so I was quick to reply stating I THINK I found what I needed but it was a single part that seemed to be on an assembly of parts so I asked "I think I found it but I just need this part - does it come with this assembly or is it seperate?"
He replied "This is part of the assembly, but if you want it just individually it's here."
SO in his defense he did "help me" but in reality if he left me alone, I would have figured it out - however due to his literally invasion of my space and thoughts, I engaged with him.
So I tried my fastest to get what I needed and I noticed him going up one of those elevated "shelf ladders" doing something next to the section I was at. So I CONCLUDED that I was in his way (or maybe he's not allowed to be on one of those things if a customer is nearby) which is why I HE WAS RUSHING ME and treating me like I was taking too long. Maybe I was, but I wasn't asking him for any attention, anyway.
When I left, I felt rushed, not satisified with my actual decision and purchase, and felt that if I just had maybe 60 more seconds, I may have made my final decision and felt good about my purchase.
I built a fish tank that I will see at least 3-4 times a day and just imagining having to relive that embarrasing/stressful moment every time I see my fish tank when I am supposed to enjoy and relax has made me felt that I must return the items I bought and just repurchase them somewhere else. In essense, I am actually scarred by this experience. The sad part is, even if I do return the items, I'll probably still think about this moment because I am giong to have to do more work that I should have just to complete my project.
I will no longer enter this location. I'd rather drive the extra 3.5 miles and 10 more minutes to Lowes on 423 and El Dorado than to risk encountering this type of experience ever again. Or drive through the horrible 380 traffic and go to The Home Depot in McKinney that's 14+ miles and almost 30 minutes away if I have to - but this situation has made me question The Home Depot as a brand if this is how they hire and train their people.
The Home Depot already lacks the great customer service to begin with - for example I needed something cut and they say they'll send somebody and I wait for over 15-30 minutes just to find out nobody is coming so I have to ask for help again.
But this review was inspired by more than a lack of service - but almost an attack on me for "taking too long" and "being all over the place and not knowing what I am doing."
I hope this review inspires y'all to work harder on your hiring and training practice.
I will ask my wife to stop making orders for pick ups (she makes me come by like once a week) at this location and tell her I'd rather drive to McKinney than go here.

Thanks for allowing me to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI have been shopping at this store for past 2 years and always had pleasant experience. But in last 3 days, I had 2 bad experiences both of which are in lumber department. On 7/14, I went to store at 8:50 PM and picked lumber. An associate was helping me cut the lumber. He had already cut 3 and we had few more to do. At 9:25, lumber coach Ozzy instructed the associate to stop cutting stating the saw machines close 1 hour before store closing. There is no mention about this in the store or near saw machine. The associate was surprised as he never knew this and another associate didnāt knew it either. Who would stop when they are in middle of helping a customer? It would have taken another 10 minutes to complete while they were unwilling to help. I returned the next day morning to see all my selection put back and I had to shop another 30 minutes to pick the lumber and get it cut. I complained next day to Mr Green and he also didnāt knew that there is any rule stating saw machines close 1 hour before. Even if itās true, they could clearly mention it near saw machines so that customers can be aware and donāt have to waste their time shop around and not get the job done. On 7/16, I went again in the evening and picked couple of lumber and needed only 4 cuts. Ozzy was the only one there and I asked him if he can cut. He refused immediately and stated he has a big order to take care. I asked because itās only 4 cuts, he can complete before working on big order as saw machine was empty. He told No. i asked if someone else can help and answer again was No. I spoke to Associate manager Daissey who understood the problem and heard me out. But she asked Ozzy to help and this time he reluctantly cut without putting any effort to do it right. He did it in 2 minutes leaving rough patches. It was so unprofessional. It seems like they donāt care for customers any more. It was so disappointing experience and Iām seriously thinking to avoid shopping at this store as I can shop at different stores rather than going to this store which seems so...
