For a school that promotes women's strength and diversity, I am appalled to see that racism for the current students is still rampant. For those women to feel afraid and not be able to come forward and speak against it, is abhorrent. Do better. How can you allow for advisor's and students alike to treat others like that? Do better, it's 2022.
Also, as I toured, I went with a family member. It was assumed I was a single mother and between the families who toured my "daughter" and I were skipped over for some questions while the larger families with relatives were asked more. I find this to be extremely telling along with the racism that this would not be a school I'd want my daughter or anyone's daughter to attend until they can work on their biases.
It's also a little alarming they don't talk about what grants or how much anything is until you've been "admitted." And even more so when you find reviews elsewhere that state that they mess with tuition, or charge more without letting people know.
For a school that charges so much, the environment seemed lacking.
Also the tour guide mentioned something about being able to help children with autism, in a way that makes me feel like it's meant for others to feel good and not benefit the children. The approach in which it was talked about could have been more tasteful. Also how can you give a tour and not know anything about any of the degrees offered there? Little disappointing.
In short: send your daughters elsewhere. This school has many...
Read moreNC state is more affordable. While I love the fact this college is smaller and has a solid autism program, the program ended up not being a good fit for myself, an individual who is autistic, because I simply did not mask sufficiently enough-- that worried me for folks attending. I would say that could be a potential flaw in the program going forward (all needing to be on the same page for training) --- this is such an easy fix! The success coach and academic advisors need to be more on the same page as well. I think the cafeteria is great. The academics piece is great, but once one falling out occurred within, it tarnished my hope for autism acceptance- I began actually not feeling as comfortable when this occurred and also when I noticed that students with no life outside Meredith were the ones receiving major awards in the dept I am in. I did make honors here though! I am thrilled about that! I loved the ceremony. I love the social work dept and one of the social work profs I had. I would not say this is necessarily a school to make lifelong friendships---- keep in mind I don't make friends at colleges and due to the competition I may not make friends most places--- MANY PEOPLE are very successful here and make friends. tons of them. In most courses it is not too difficult and life altering to obtain your coveted A. cliquey environment with a small and peaceful...
Read moreI went on a college tour and sat in on one of the English classes. As soon as the people around me saw my 'hello my name is:' sticker they introduced themselves and shook my hand and told me at once what a great school Meredith was. They all enjoyed the class so much and it was nothing like the experience my adult peers tell me about college classes. It had less than twenty students which is less than my classes at my high school, and they all were engaged and the teacher let them do half the lesson. I was so satisfied with my five hour experience, and everyone was...
