TLDR; Joel and Jennifer run an incredible shop and the process of working with such wonderful people is a privilege in and of itself - but they are also incredible craftspeople and the care and creativity they put into their work is apparent.

Long version: My fiance and I strolled into Joel and Jennifer’s Red Bank location many moons ago with a black opal and a vague idea about turning it into a ring, having read good things but being completely unsure what we were doing or what to expect.

What unfolded from there was a delightful experience, at every step of the way they were incredible about sharing their expertise, kindness and hospitality. It was an absolute blast working with Joel to determine the shape the ring would take: he was incredibly patient in sending designs, revising them and really just collaborating and trading ideas until we were absolutely satisfied with the direction, he really just demonstrated a kind of engaged professionalism that isn’t so common these days. Even more so, they took the time to explain and strongly advocate for certain things (like why you wouldn’t put an opal in a prong setting - it’s really delicate!) that at the time I wasn’t sure about but ultimately led to a result I was much much happier with! It takes guts and integrity to advocate for the better decision through client resistance, and that really stuck with me. In the end, the opal ring we ended up with was incredibly stunning and unique, and of such good, lasting quality.

Beyond everything though, I remember first walking into the shop and them saying: it is the people they meet and befriend in the work they do that matters to them, and they really stand by that. I can say for certain that they carry such warmth throughout their business - and in such a genuine way. I can’t say how many times they were giving of their time, their stories and life experiences, snacks or whatever - we would come in to talk business and just hang out for hours just getting to know them (and they are so outrageously cool). Really from top to bottom I cannot say enough kind things. Their work is beautiful, they are genuine, kind and just really fascinating people - what isn’t to love?
