If you are prepared to be greeted with contempt for being a customer, then this is the place for you! I personally enjoy the 'you can't see what I'm typing on the iPad upcharge that comes with visiting this market, which seems like poor practice considering not only that it is a business but also the proximity of Shockoe Heights Market to FarmFresh. I made the mistake of taking three visiting friends there to buy craft beer--the 'clerk' blew up when we made a rather innocuous comment about being ID'd, going into a rather long rant about morality associated with the carding process. I found this moral high ground tirade laughable, as Shockoe Valley Heights Market proudly displays an extensive headshop's selection on the checkout counter--which I can only assume is OK to the 'clerk' since no doubt the collection of pipes and glass pieces and grinders are used for tobacco... Cheap shots and sarcasm aside, this place is a nightmare. The clerk/owner is ruder than anyone should ever be when accepting money willingly given to him by customers, and they offer absolutely nothing you cannot get anywhere else. FarmFresh is three blocks up Main Street, making this market and its absolutely repugnant excuse for a clerk...

Last week I bought a pack of cigs and a snickers bar and was charged 11.59 on my account , absolutely ridiculous . I go in there almost every other day , he knows me and still harasses me about my I.d and weather it is real or if I am old enough , we have had several in counters where he argues that I am 17 years old , clearly can't read an I.d right , and is extremely rude . He never gives a receipt or tells you the price of what you are buying so if you do decide to go in there make sure you know the prices of the things you are buying and ask for a receipt...

Everything is rung up on an iPad, so you never see the price yourself. One time when checking my bank statement after having shopped there for a few months, I realized that at least two purchases were way higher than they should have been. I know for a fact that every time I ever bought anything there, it never exceeded $15, but I saw two transactions for a little over $40. That's when I began asking for the total and for my receipt every time since... and the man behind the counter was always really put-off by my asking these questions....
