Food is just amazing. I mean this place really deserves 5/5 stars. The only reason I put 4 was because the host said there would be a 30-45 minute wait. I saw many tables open (but didn't see the usual alternative pattern they do for COVID). I asked the host and pointed to these three tables side by side that were all open. He said, "We are taking COVID precautions and having to seat accordingly." I thought to myself, "Didn't answer the question about table availability or specific tables, but, okay." So I asked him, "Can my friend and I wait at the bar until our table is ready? (because there were couples standing and drinking at the bar)" He said, "Unfortunately, because of the pandemic, no." Which is super normal, however, there were people at the bar!!!!! I was so overwhelmed with how patronizing the host was, he was not a welcoming face to see/talk to, usually you put your nicest most accommodating people at the front. The best part of the story though - he sits us at the exact table I asked about in between the two spaced tables after TWENTY minutes. Meaning, we watched an empty table for 20 minutes and got to sit at that exact same one....... HOWEVER, if you can get around an inconsiderate host, this place is WELL worth the wait. The pizza is absolutely amazing. I mean, might be the best pizza I've ever had. I ordered the half Mexican style pizza/half meat lovers, and my friend is GF and she got the GF meat lovers with vegan cheese pizza. She said it was the best GF and Vegan cheese pizza she's ever had. We had Jordan as our server and she is an angel. So good with people, she is so adorable, and she knows the menu very well. If you go, ask for Jordan. She made my experience. She is a rockstar. This place would've gotten 5/5 stars if it weren't for the bad interaction and lack of customer service I had with the host.

This place is considered a historic Richmond spot, located down in The Bottom / Canal St area. This happened to my first visit after hearing the pizza mentioned a lot over the years. A colleague and I split a medium of their traditional crust pizza. It was 6 large slices and was enough to leave stuffed. I found it loaded with toppings, thicky buttery crust but not overwhelming the slice as a whole. If you like pizza hut pan pizza, this is the homemade, better version of that. We also got some irish nachos just because they were on the specials board. Great fries and loaded with toppings, we didn't need them but glad we did. There was a bar and a decent beer / drink menu. The bartender was also the waiter and was friendly, fast, and accommodating. My one criticism would be the dining area felt packed with tables, such that if they had been busy we would have felt like we were sitting right on top of a bunch of people. I was also a little surprised how small it was inside (although there might be an upstairs? I didn't check it out). Pizza is my favorite food, and I'd go back. Just know if you're looking for a NY slice, this isn't that.

Aggressively bad service. My wife and I were recommended Bottoms Up pizza and swung by: she ordered a gluten free pizza and I ordered a slice. Just horrible experience start to finish. First, when I asked the waiter about drinks, he said that “they must have run out of drink menus” but didn’t tell us what they had. So odd. After waiting patiently for 30 minutes during which time the waiter never stopped by to check on us or refill our drinks, the waiter came by and admitted he forgot to place our order, and took our order again! He assured us our food order would be escalated. About another 30 minutes of being ignored and seeing every person in the restaurant receive their food, manager comes by and admitted they had lost our order ticket. We confirmed with him: you forgot to place our first order then lost the second one that was placed - yes. Assured us it would be right out. He refilled my free water but not my wife’s soda. Had to wait about another 30 minutes for our food. Hour and a half for a slice! Pizza was mediocre. They did give us our pizza for free, but at no time offered us anything while we waited: some chips, a drink, an appetizer, nothing. And of course waiter completely ignored us the entire 2 hours we were there - no drink refills, status updates, nothing. Had to even get a to-go box from another server. What a miserable place. Also, their light is out on their stair well which is a workplace hazard.

This may be a mixed review due to Nicole's love of this place. Her friends and family really like it as well, but from my recent experience, I wasn't too impressed. The cheesy bread sticks had an okay flavor, but the crust was too crunchy and the bread was too airy for my taste. The pizza looks great, but, again, the flavor was okay. I ordered the bottoms up loaded. The crust was also crunchier than what you would expect from a deep dish / thick pizza. Nicole, however, loves their oyster Rockefeller pizza. They have a decent beer selection, which is nice. They carry some local stuff I haven't had, so I enjoyed that part. They were pretty busy, which is expected for a Friday night, but it wasn't uncomfortably filled. We could have used a bit bigger table since there was six of us packed into our booth. For how busy they were, the service was actually pretty good. Our waitress was friendly and got our orders out to us pretty quickly. Our bill was a little messed up, but the business manager took care of it so we didn't pay for something we didn't order. That was quality customer service. All in all, it was a good experience. Due to Nicole's love of the restaurant, I will most undoubtedly come back and give it another shot for 5 stars and favorite pizza joint.

My boyfriend and I saw they were having a live jazz quartet on Sunday and decided to give Bottoms Up a try. We arrived around 6:30pm and were put on the waiting list to be seated in the jazz section. We were told the wait would be about 30 minutes. It had been an hour and we hadn’t been seated yet. There were several tables that were empty but hadn’t been cleaned up. The hostess was constantly apologizing to every guest that came up and mentioned they were short staffed. At 7:30 we told the hostess that we’d sit anywhere that was available. We were finally seated at 7:40. We already had an idea on what we wanted when the waiter came to our table. Our drinks and appetizer came out pretty quickly. The pizza took almost an hour. I understand they were busy and that the pizzas take a while, but an hour seemed like a long time. The tables around us haven’t been cleaned since we were seated. I got a cheese pizza, and it was okay. Good flavor, but I wouldn’t wait two hours again for it. My boyfriend got the Mexican pizza and loved his. I’m willing to try this place again, as long the wait isn’t horrendous again, it just wasn’t worth the wait.

Im really sad to write this review because having worked professionally as a cook I know the grind and sweat that goes into every shift for very little if any reward and appreciation. But, sadly and objectively the pizza is not good. It reminds me of chuck-e-cheese. Which is good in its own right. The same way dominos is good and McDonald’s is good. Everything can be “good” under the right expectations. My expectations having read many good reviews were not met. I was expecting a pizza that I’d enjoy eating. Pretty simple. The crust lacked any browning at all. Crust was completely blonde on the bottom and the top crust was brittle, no chew to it. The sauce was too sweet like a canned pizza sauce would be with added sugar, etc. Pizza sauce needs neither sugar nor processing or any kind. Just purée blanched skinless tomatoes and you’re good to go. Again pains me to write this. But, I want to help set expectations. If I were drunk, stoned, or famished it would be a good pizza. It was not a good pizza to sit back and enjoy on a Friday night with a movie. That said the delivery was prompt and the ranch was really good.
